Nestled in the heart of Shimla, amidst the serene hills, lies a place that exudes peace and tranquility - the Dorje Drak Monastery. With its rich Tibetan heritage and magnificent Buddhist architecture, this monastery has become a must-visit destination for tourists visiting Shimla.

As you approach the monastery, you will be greeted by the serene sight of monks meditating and chanting. The calm atmosphere of this place is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. The monastery is a testament to the resilience of the Tibetan community, who have managed to preserve their culture in the face of adversity.

The monastery is one of the largest of its kind in India, belonging to the Nyingmapa School. It was established in 1984 by His Highness Kyabje Taklung Tsetrual Rinpoche, after the original monastery in Tibet was destroyed during the Chinese invasion. The square and rectangular structure of the monastery is a sight to behold, and it is a perfect example of Buddhist architecture in the Himalayan region.

The Hemis festival, which is celebrated every year in May, is a major attraction for visitors. This festival is a tribute to Guru Padmasambhava, and it draws in crowds from far and wide. The monastery is open to visitors all days of the week, from 10 am to 5 pm, and there is no entry fee. However, visitors are welcome to make a donation to support the upkeep of the monastery.

In a stunning turn of events, His Highness Kyabje Taklung Tsetrual Rinpoche, who built the magnificent Dorje Drak Monastery in Shimla, has taken a new birth in the quaint village of Tabo in Spiti. Just three months ago, he was brought to the monastery as a four-year-old boy, and he has amazed the monks with his knowledge of his past life.

The young boy, who has been identified as the reincarnation of Kyabje Taklung Tsetrual Rinpoche, has astounded the monks with his remarkable abilities. He has reportedly identified the exact spot where he used to sit in the previous life and has recognized everything that belonged to him.

It is not uncommon for Tibetan Buddhists to believe in the concept of reincarnation, and the case of Kyabje Taklung Tsetrual Rinpoche is no exception. This remarkable occurrence is a testament to the power of faith and the resilience of the human spirit. The young boy, who is believed to be the reincarnation of the great Rinpoche, is sure to leave a lasting legacy just like his predecessor

So, if you're looking for a place to unwind and connect with your spiritual side, the Dorje Drak Monastery in Shimla is the perfect place to visit.
