With the beaches and serene atmosphere Goa has allured a major population from the entire world to visit and experience the same. Let’s bring out a clear picture of the forts in different parts of Goa.

Forts in North Goa

1. Chapora Fort

A favourite evening haunt for the thrill likers to chill out, Chapora Fort in North Goa is yet another popular destination for the patrons.

For the best sunset views, you must visit this fort and experience a lifetime capture. The steep slopes on all the sides of this fort provide an excellent natural excess to the sea along with.

Timings– 10 AM to 5.30 PM

2. Reis Magos Fort

One of the oldest forts in the city of Goa, Reis Magos Fort offers a brilliant scenic view from all its sides. The photogenic ambience of this place gets even better with the existence of a beautiful church built along with.

This 16th-century fort is visited by a large mass of explorers periodically. This fort has been restored by the authorities as a cultural and heritage centre in Goa.

Location– Verem, Bardez, North Goa
Timings– 9.30 AM to 5 PM

3. Corjuem Fort

Built in the year 1705, Corjuem Fort in Goa offers a splendid view of the river and lush green land surrounding the fort.

Known to be built as a military fortress for the defence of Portuguese, this fort is very famous owing to its unique location. Being one of the two prominent inland forts, this fort attracts many people even in the 21st century.

Location– Off- Aldona, Corjuem, North Goa
Timings– Open 24 Hours

4. Terekhol Fort

Also popular with the name of Tiracol Fort, this landmark in Goa is located at the mouth of Tiracol River. The best part of this fort is that it can be reached by a ferry from Querim.

The ferry leaves an everlasting imprint on the hearts with its tranquillity. This fort was built by Maharaja Khem Sawant Bhonsle in the 17th century.

Location– Tiracol, North Goa
Timings– Open 24 Hours

5. Aguada Fort

Built in the year 1612, Aguada Fort in Goa is a well- preserved structure that attracts chunks of tourists every year. Overlooking the Arabian Sea, the lighthouse at this particular fort is the highlight of this destination.

The sunset over here captivates everyone’s heart. This fort is having a freshwater spring from where it derives its name.

Location– Aguada Fort Road, Candolim, North Goa
Timings– 7 AM to 6 PM

6. Sinquerim Fort

Located at a distance of 18 km from Panaji, Sinquerim Fort in Goa was constructed in the year 1612. Basically, this fort is the lower extension of Aguada Fort. The beauty of Arabian Sea makes this place a must-visit. This fort bisects the Sinquerim beach shoreline into two.

Location– Candolim, North Goa
Timings– 7 AM to 6 PM

7. Nanuz Fort

Built in the 17th century by the all-time chivalry Maratha ruler, Shivaji; Nanuz Fort has been known to be a prime centre during the times of revolts in Goa. The beauty of this place lies in its eternal soothing environment and unique plants and animals. This fort is a true symbol of Indian chivalry in the country.

Location– Sattari, North Goa
Timings– 8 AM to 6 PM

Forts in South Goa

8. Cabo de Rama Fort

Carrying a rich legacy of history within its brilliant atmosphere, Cabo de Rama is a superb fort in the city of Goa. Sprawling over an area of 1,80,000 square metres, this fort is said to have derived its name from the Ramayana.

It is believed that Lord Rama along with his wife stayed here during the 14 years of exile. The local residents consider this beach as one of the most serene places in Goa.

Location– Canacona, South Goa
Timings– 9 AM to 5.30 PM

9. Rachol Fort

Not an impressive destination as far as the structure quotient is concerned but the scenic beauty of this place is very pleasing. The Rachol Seminary is the famous landmark which makes this place popular among the travel lovers.

Location– Rachol, South Goa
Timings– 8 AM to 6 PM

10. Mormugao Fort

The location of this place makes it a happening destination for the travellers in the city of Goa. This fort is situated at the mouth tip of Zuari River and is ranked in the list of must to go places in South Goa. This fort covers a total area of six miles in circumference and was built in 1624.

Location– Mormugao, South Goa
Timings– 7 AM to 5.30 PM

11. Anjdiv Fort

Yet another superb fort in the travel hub of Goa, Anjdiv Fort is located on the border of Goa and Karnataka. This was built by Portuguese in the year 1505 AD. This Fort is also known by the names of Anjadiva and Anjediva. The island of Anjdiv fort is sprawled over an area of 1.5 square kilometres.

Location– Anjdiv Island, South Goa
Timings–  Always Open

The beauty of Goa lies in its rich and varied heritage and an overwhelming chivalry of Indian history and culture. Being in Goa is definitely a dream come true.
