I had been recently on the weekend to Prani, which is a Pet sanctuary housing exotic animals and rescued animals. You can interact with the animals and observe them close up. I took my 10 year old son to observe the place and hope that curiosity arises. Its good to observe ‘correct thinking’ about animals and the natural world so we can change our collective behavior, that we pass on to our kids when we talk about animals.

Children have an inborn draw towards nature, and Prani is a place that helps make that connection better. They have an animal shelter for rescued animals and have a beautiful 90 minute tour of the property. We had a lovely time observing pets, learning about their behaviour and understanding adaptations that some animals develop as they evolve. If you want to keep your kids engaged and understand animals better, I'd recommend Prani as a good trip out of the city (South Bangalore)

We had some very interesting take aways from some of the animals we met

Iguanas are complete vegetarians. They develop pseudo spikes to scare birds who hunt them down for prey. They have a literal 3rd eye, through a pineal gland that detects predators behind them.

Turtles live in water and come on land to lay eggs. Tortoises have heavier legs and they stay on land. Terrapins are similar. They are not amphibian. They walk towards water but can’t float in water. A Terrapin’s ‘beak’ is so sharp that it can cut a human finger off

Usually Indian goats can be petted, except if it is an alpha male. Goats eye vision is panoramic vision

Horses grow bigger than ponies. Horses are good runners, while Ponies are good climbers. You need to look at their ear flap position to observe is they are ready to interact with you

Peasants are types of birds are native to China. Females are dark coloured and males are colourful. Color is used as a way to attract females and distract predators.
