Anamudi Peak

Anamudi in Kerala is the highest mountain peak in the Western Ghats of South India. It lies on the border of Devikulam Taluk. Anamudi is considered among the three most important peaks of south India. It is also known as the Everest of the south. The word 'Anamudi' means elephant's forehead, as the shape of the mountain resembles the forehead of an elephant. It is situated on an elevation of 2695m and stands in the Eravikulam National Park. Anamudi hills have a rich biodiversity with healthy flora and fauna. Anamudi's Weather is quite pleasant and the best time to visit is from the month of May to November.

Situated in the Idukki District, the Anamudi Shola National Park, along with Mathikettan Shola National Park, Eravikulam National Park, Pambadum Shola National Park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary and the Kurinjimala Sanctuary, forms the massive Anamalai sub-cluster of Western Ghats. The Anamudi Shola National Park is home to an array of endangered flora and fauna, such as the Indian Elephant, Nilgiri Tahr, Indian Bison and Flying Squirrel. The three forests, Idivara Shola Reserve, Pullardi Shola Reserve and Mannavan Shola Reserve, are an indispensable part of the eco-system that sustains life in the southern region of the Western Ghats.

Being the highest peak in India outside the Himalaya's, Anamaudi is truelove breathtaking. It isn't like the mountains you see in the northern district of India, covered in snow like a fairy tale, but is rather lush green and smooth. Surrounded by random water bodies and greenary, Anamudi makes for a pituresque location at the least. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to go to the top due to elephants and expected bad weather. We stayed a while and allowed it to humble us.
