Jaipur … The Pink city

Yah! More like an over populated crowded city why it should not be! It is the Rajasthan capital and capital for all foreigner tourist.

First impression of Jaipur was crowded roads, populated streets lots of honk of vehicles and no helmet surely not a “Pink City”.

I travelled Jaipur all the way from Gujarat (Rajkot- Ahmedabad- Nathdwara(Rajasthan)) by driving my car with family. Yap, it was a family trip. We started around 2 pm from Ahmedabad to Nathdwara which is located in the Aravalli hills, on the banks of the Banas River in Rajsamand District, 48 kilometers north-east of Udaipur. This town is famous for its temple of Krishna, which houses the deity of Shrinathji, a 14th-century, incarnation of the Lord Krishna. We reached Udaipur around 7:45 pm and reached Nathwara around 8:45, there we stayed at “Shree Patidar Seva Samaj”(Dharmsala for Gujju’s; Nice, spacious & clean place to stay)We had checked in and had our dinner over there, Of cource it is delicious Gujju food (Roti, subji and kadhi, khichadi with pickle and salad).

Day 1 in Jaipur,

Next day, early morning we went to the Shrinathji temple for “Mangala aarti” with bare feet, it is 10 min walking distance form our Dharmsala. After that we had breakfast and got freshen up and went to market and do the next Darshan called “Gwal” followed by “Rajbhog”. After that, we had our lunch at Dharmsala canteen then rest in room with some family gossip. Again around 4 we left for temple for Bhog Darshan flowed by evening Aarti while coming back we had testy Kachori(near to the ATM, ICICI bank, must try it).

Again next moring we went for Mangala Aarti and after breakfast freshen up and packed up the bags and drive for “Chittorgarh fort”, 115 Km from Nathwara almost 2.5 hr driving. My expectation was very high from the fort b’z of Padmavat movie but… but… there is hardly few things are there which amazed me. The art … Kirti stumbh and Vijay Stumbh, Gaumukh Reservoir and Jain temple. ThetheAround 2 pm we left for Jaipur……assuming that everything will be pink…. Silly me…

We checked in to our hotel around 9 yah it is almost 7 hr of driving with gosspi. We had dinner and took deep sleep. Uff so much tired ….

Day 1 in Jaipur,

Next morning, Saj dhaj ke we headed for Hawa mahal…. Oh don’t forget to have Poha near to Hawa mahal at the road side. Hawa mahal for Rani and dashi to see the market and town activity from Zarokha / Window so they can hide themselfe and still be the part of it. Before the hawa mahal we struggeled for the Car parking but finally found it.

And, Yah! finally show the Pink City from center of it. Behind the Hawa mahal there is a City palace where current Maharaja is staying with his family. There is musium inside and different place like Diwan-a-aam(sabha palace, meeting room), Govind Dev Ji temple,Diwan-a-khaas (special meeting room), Chandra mahal (moon palace), Mubarak mahal, the clock tower and must see the Gangajali (silver Urn) which maharaja used that Urn to store GANGAJAL for whole year as drinking water for himself, Royalty you can say! And Pritam Niwas one of the best exmaple of Art work(Peacock Gate, Leheriya Gate, Rose gate, Lotus Gate). What a mindblowing detailed art work on walls.Sukh Niwas (blue room) is not open for all. You want to visit for 1 hour you need to pay 2500 Rs per person which is private space for maharaja and his family you might see roming there if you are lucky.

After 2.5 hour we came out of City palace and had Kachori chaat near by shop and headed towards the Jantar Mantar. Oh one thing about this is you must have Guide for this without guide it is some weired architecture. We hiried a guide for 200 Rs along with one another family. He explained all the architecture purpose like how to see Naksatra Rashi, moon, sun postione all… that astrology… Ahhh was one of the amaaaazing thing done by Maharaja’s(200 years old). I was like WOW with wide open eyes. We have gone almost all instruments like:

Samrat Yantra, Jai Prakash Yantra, Disha Yantra, Rama Yantra, Chakra Yantra,Rashiwalay Yantra,Dingash Yantra,Utaansh Yantra

After this amazing thing we headed for one more cool thing called “ Monkey Temple” called Galtaji. You read it right. Galtaji is 30 min drive from Jantar mantar outside the town between the hills, there is palace, temple and Kund (water tank) used by hell lot of monkey. You will be sacred when you were surrounded with 30-50 money within 5-10 mtr of your area… wide open without any cage …. Searching you for food. It is like I never had that strict search of me by some animal. After all it is home for all these monkey they have all the rights after all it is there home. We left from there in 35-45 min and back to the city for one of the best thing to do called “shopping” at Bapu bazaar.

Yah series of Pink shop loaded with all Rajasthani things like bangles, shoe, earrings, clothes and what not! I went crazy ….. Bought bangles for my aunt’s and myself, Mojari (shoe), earing for me and my cousins, Lehariya saree for myself dupattas and hell lot of stuff… with that happy ending of my long long day…

Oh I forgot, city was lighting with lots of lights like Diwali……..it was so beautiful and crowded….

Day 2 in Jaipur,

After breakfast, we started our day by visiting Amber Fort and Palace. From far only you can see the elephants (elegant with all decoration ) with Savari climbing up the fort. We hired a guide down the fort. We climbed in Car (our elephant ). Movie Jodha Akabar and many more are shoot in that fort. What a royal fort made out of sandstone and marble. At its entrance lies the primary courtyard, known as Jaleb Chowk. It's here that the king's soldiers assembled and paraded themselves around. Suraj Pol (Sun Gate) and Chand Pol (Moon Gate) lead into this courtyard. Head inside the fort, up the stately staircase from Jaleb Chowk courtyard, and you'll reach the second courtyard that houses the Diwan-e-Aam (Hall of Public Audience) with its many pillars.

The third courtyard, accessed through the ornate mosaic Ganesh Pol, is where the king's private quarters were located. It has two buildings separated by an expansive ornamental garden. It's here that you'll marvel over the fort's most exquisite part -- the Diwan-e-Khas (Hall of Private Audiences). Its walls are covered in intricate mirror work, using glass imported from Belgium. Hence, it's also called Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors). The upper part of Diwan-e-Khas, known as Jas Mandir, has delicate floral designs with glass in them. The other building, on the opposite side of the garden, is Sukh Niwas. A place of pleasure, it's where the king reportedly relaxed with his ladies.

At the rear of the fort lies the fourth courtyard and Palace of Man Singh, which has the zenana (women's quarters). One of the oldest parts of the fort, it was completed in 1599. It has many rooms around it where the king kept each of his wives and visited them when he wished. At its center is a pavilion where the queens used to meet. The courtyard's exit leads down to the town of Amber.

Unfortunately, the king's bedroom (near the Sheesh Mahal) remains closed. However, you can sometimes buy a separate ticket (from inside the area where it's located) to see it. Its marvelous ceiling is covered in small mirrors that give the impression of a starry night when a candle is lit.

Amber Fort also has an open-air passage that connects it to Jaigarh Fort. Tourists can walk along it from Ganesh Pol, or be transported by golf cart.

After that we headed for Jaigarh fort (Mostly known as the Fort of Victory this particular fort is constructed to store the weapons and other military utilities) where some Hollywood TV series shooting was going on at the entrance. With our new guide we headed towards the gigantic “canon Jaivana” Guide said This giant weapon was never used in war. It is believed that the cannon was test-fired only once by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1720 with a charge of 100 kg gunpowder. The shot covered a distance of 35 kilometers which is now a pond by the villagers of Chaksu. The cannon was kept near water for the gunners to dive in and escape the shock waves. But during the first firing, Maharaja Jai Singh, eight people and one elephant were reportedly killed by the shockwave and many houses collapsed in Jaipur. And Interesting thing about this fort is our Ex PM Indira Gandhi found 2 truck of hiding (Hidden by Maharaja/ Maharani Gayatri devi) gold from one of the water tank in Jahangir fort.

After this we headed for Nahargarh Fort (palace for 9 Queen) .The fort was originally named Sudarshangarh, but it became known as Nahargarh, which means 'abode of tigers'. The popular belief is that Nahar here stands for Nahar Singh. From this you can see the Jaipur city and sunset.

Headed back to my favorite thing … Shopping…..at Bapu Bazaar and Zohari bazaar…….What a satisfying experience.

For dinner we went to have famous Daal baati choorma place called Rawat Restaurant then Santosh Bhojanalay for local test. Food was so delicious and Gheee you can not ask them not to put ghee….

After tummy full food what else do you need then a bed …….!!

Day 3 in Jaipur,

Blessing. That is what you need to start your beautiful day.. as you can guess I have started my day with Birla Mnadir (Lakshmi Mnadir, The most significant part of the temple is the stunning idol of Lakshmi Narayan, carved out from a single piece of stone) what a peacefull day! Temple build with marble.this place is near to Moti Dungari Ganesh temple which is nice place to see but need to climb the steps( which we were too lazy to do it so we skipped it, which Indira Gandhi found 2 tone of hidden Gold).

After blessing we went to get some knowledge yah you got it right it is Albert hall museum(oldest museum of Rajasthan) where you can find all wooden carving and Loyal gifts given to the king. The museum has paintings from illustrations in the Persian Razmnama which were especially prepared for Emperor Akbar. In most of the murals, Chinese, European, Egyptian, Greek and Babylonian civilizations have been portrayed. There are a number of archways, courtyards and towers in the museum, which speak much about the rich architectural heritage of the country. There are many miniature paintings and portraits of the royal kings displayed in the museum. It has marbal art, clay art, metal art, pottery , Lvory, jewelry , coins, wood furniture , carpet some are worth few Corer Rs.

After museum we were planning to visit and watch movie to famous Raj Mandir Cinema but there was no good movie at that time and a we have to drive back to all the way back to…Home (860 Km)

We checkout from hotel left for Nathwara (350 km).it was night so we stayed there again early morning left for Rajkot(580 km).

On the way had / bought Sitafal and had lunch placed called Shamdaji (again Krishna Temple 180 km from Nathdwara).
