Destination 1: Kuala Lumpur (Apr 15-17)The Flight: We left New Delhi on 14 April via ‘Air Asia’ flight which left around midnight. The good part about this particular airliner is, it is cheap. The bad part, the flight is too crowded with no in-flight entertainment system and little seating space which makes it slightly (read highly) uncomfortable to sit for 5 hours at one single position. It was like a GoAir or Indigo (actually much worse) except for a longer duration flight. Word of caution: Book Air Asia if you are really tight on budget. Else I would recommend Malaysia Airlines or some other slightly ‘premium’ carrier. (P.S. I never knew this about Air Asia while booking).Place to stay: Tune Hotels, DowntownStay Price: Rs 1500 per night (paid in India before leaving)We arrived KL on the morning of 15 April. The good part is I belong to a worldwide community called Toastmasters, and the great part is KL itself has more than 100 Toastmasters clubs. Hence the moment we landed on the KLIA2 Airport, one of the Toastmasters who I have been in touch with for attending a meeting was already there waiting for us. It was wonderfully kind and generous of him to do so. Malaysian hospitality by a British immigrant Toastmaster!After attending the meeting, we went to our hotel. Tune Hotel is like Oyo Rooms except that the rooms are somewhat smaller than Oyo. But with all the amenities and a good brand name it’s great for a budget hotel.Things to do:I have lived in almost all major cities of India. But when I began roaming around KL, I realized none of the places I have lived compare even an inch bit to the grandeur in appearance and the openness in culture that this city represents. We were awed with the high-rise buildings, the visits across the city from the monorail, the Petronas twin towers, the beautifully decorated cars, the dresses of the women of the city, the free KL bus, the evening rain, the people playing music on the streets for money, and a lot lot more.While in KL, we went to the following places (all of these are definitely Do’s):a. Batu Cavesb. Bukit Bintang – you will be awe-inspired by the gala of the place!c. Street Food opposite Bukit Bintang – heaven for foodiesd. The Petronas Twin Towers – you will keep walking in a shopping mall without realizing when you are underneath the Petronas twinTowers! We didn’t go all the way up to the deck. Personally speaking I didn’t find it worth to spend RM 85 for the view.e. KL City Gallery – You will come across a beautiful city museum with a lights show of entire KL. For RM5, this place is totally worth it.f. I Love KL – Right next to KL city gallery. Definitely the right place to get yourself clicked!g. Chinatown – This place is famous in KL for its Sarojini Nagar type low cost street shopping.h. Little India – If you are from India, do pay a visit and enjoy some inexpensive South Indian food. You can also buy stuff which is part Indian from the Malaysian Indian kirana stores.Food:Speaking of food, for all the vegetarians in the house, Malaysia has their own special version of vegetarian dish which is available almost everywhere in the country. It’s called Roti Canai (pronounced as roti-chanai). Roti Canai is nothing but plain naan served with dal. For a tasty, stomach filling inexpensive dish, this is a safe vegetarian option for those who do not indulge in other foods.Right next to the Tune hotel where we stayed is this place called ‘Pak Punjab’ which serves authentic north-Indian food. Yes, that means paratha, chholey, dal, naan and what not. With tasty food, reasonable prices and hospitable staff, I would recommend this place if you want to taste good north Indian food (believe me you do get craving for ghar ka khana (home food) while away from home).Yet another delicious Malaysian cuisine which I want everyone to taste is the ‘Teh Tarik’ or local Malaysian tea. It has a very different taste which you will never have tasted before. Not only is it unique, it’s delicious as well. We made sure we drink ‘Teh Tarik’ every single day while we were there!Transport:KL has a beautiful train system which was rather complicated for us as newcomers. The monorail connects with the main metro lines (the city has 3 of them). But the good part is, Uber is everywhere! And so is Grab car, which is the Ola of Malaysia (rather south-east Asia). If you have Uber app, no worries. People driving their awesome personal cars will pick you up and drop you to the place of your choice. Alternatively you can also download the ‘Grab’ app for more options.For outstation travel, Malaysia has impeccable roads and an excellent bus service which operates everyday to almost all important destinations across the country. You can book the bus in advance if you are the cautious kinds else you can also go to the bus station and get the tickets at the counter.So after two days of fun, frolic and masti (enjoyment) in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, we took the bus from the KL bus station and moved to our next destination – Cameron Highlands.

It is very easy to misunderstand Kuala Lumpur as a mere concrete jungle. But once you set foot inside, you will find that the blessed forests and landscapes of Malaysia, have been retained with great care, discipline and love in the capital city. There are not many cities in Asia which have a rainforest at its heart, and urge people to take long hikes just as much as they spoil them with magnanimous shopping malls.

I reached at KLCC and meet with my CS friend Tang Jenny, a vivacious , energetic lady in her late 50 , who travelled many countries as a solo traveller. She picked me up and we reached his beautiful house in premium area surrounded by lush green forest, Area named was TAMAN TAR. we had some local breakfast such as laksa, rojak, cendol (my favourite), satay and had a great time together.We had discussions over food, people, culture and bollywood, yes she knows abut saif, shahrukh, etc. next in my 3rd and 4th day i explore the KL city alone and took some beautiful pictures. Then in my 5th day i met with my second Couchsurfer named Rudy (THE Professional phographer) and he taught me lessons on camera, poses and photography. Rudy is damn good in this phography skill. In evening i was his assistant photgrapher and we went to one Zumba halloween happened in Bukit Bintang Area, do dance over there and good time with chinese, malay people. You would not believe but young crazy zumba enthusiastic people were dancing on Prem ratan dhan payo, Believe me it was crazy .So yes, i had great, memorable time in malaysia as a solo traveller and i would recommend to everyone that have some courage and travel alone as much as u can. This world is a beautiful place and believe me that you will feel that in your life something has definately changed. :)

A lot of things get unwritten, but they remain in the mind for so long, if not forever. Many months after the trip, I would still say, Singapore was worth every single penny I spent, worth all the juggling, worth pulling our heavy trolleys around from one airport to another, worth the transit in Kuala Lumper both to and fro, and also waiting for long hours.

Then comes my last destination of this trip - Malaysia. The capital of Malaysia is called KL by locals. Beautiful location of Grand Hyatt, Kuala Lumpur wherein right from lobby to my room I got the view of Petronas Twin Towers - a pair of glass and steel clad sky scrapers and Islamic motifs. The towers also offer public sky bridge and observation deck offers an exhilarating view of KL city centre. Don't forget to do window shopping from Suria KLCC Shopping Mall which also has a massive aquaria and food court. Just a short walk away is KLCC Park has jogging track, walking paths, water fountains. Took Air Asia flight back to Chennai. That's the end of trip.. Finally would like to say - What you visualise that you materialize !!

KUALA LUMPUR:After the tedious journey of ‘The grand Indian wedding celebrations’, our excitement for Bali, weighed far more on the tiring after-effects that every couple faces during and after winding up the rituals. A brief halt at our workplace, we packed up our bags, and were ready to take a lift up to Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, and a buzzing economic hub, was quite something. It is a brilliant confluence of tradition and modernity in all sense. People, there, are quite polite and ready to help with any query. Yes, the language barrier did prove a bit tiring, nevertheless, sign language is a very good back-up anywhere, and the international language of English, did work out almost everywhere.

The sights, sounds and tastes of a cosmopolitan city, and the train ride that took me to Kuala Lumpur.Kuala Lumpur is a common destination among many Singaporeans and for obvious reasons too. Its close by, doesn’t cost a fortune to get there and serves a simple but significant change of environment for a short period of time. The last time I went to KL was in 2009 – so this time when I decided on KL, it was with an open mind hoping to experience some nostalgia.The twist this time around was my believe that a train ride would be a fabulous idea. Here’re the details: taking a train to KL is only an okay idea. If you’re insistent, I suggest taking the Deluxe Sleeper Cabins, where you can control the lighting and air conditioning. To get the Deluxe Sleeper Cabins is extremely tricky. You need to buy the tickets exactly 30 days before the day you’d like to depart, which is when the tickets will be released. If you miss the date, chances are you will have to take a regular sleeper cabin or a seated one. While the 2nd Class Sleeper Cabin allows you to sleep on a mattress (though they didn’t look too comfortable), the premium-seating cabin has 45-degree reclining seats. Here’s what happened: the lights were on all night, the train was freezing and things kept going bump all night.Obviously, you can tell I wasn’t the lucky one who got the deluxe sleeper cabin. Hence, I sat and drifted in and out of sleep repeatedly for the 8 hour journey. The train departed JB Sentral Station at 10.30pm at night arrived in KL Sentral Station at 7am sharp.Day 1

Kuala Lumpur is overwhelming and keeping up with the city is a mammoth task. With its multiple skyscrapers and makeshift stalls, it is the perfect blend of two contrasting worlds. It is home to an array of cultures and they come together to impart this unique character to the Malaysian capital. And then, there is no doubting the fact that food is the soul of KL, right from Nasi Lemak to the good old chicken curry. It is dramatic and perhaps even crazy but Kuala Lumpur truly is a metropolis like no other.
