In this article, I will share my personal journey of exploring Shillong within a budget of Rs. 5000. From affordable accommodations and local transportation to cost-effective sightseeing options and delicious yet pocket-friendly meals, discover how I made the most of my limited budget while immersing myself in the charm of Shillong.

To ensure a successful budget trip, thorough research and planning are key. I began by gathering information on affordable accommodations, local transportation options, and budget-friendly attractions in Shillong. Utilizing online travel forums, budget travel blogs, and social media groups helped me gather valuable insights from fellow travelers who had already explored Shillong on a budget.

Accomodation

Finding budget-friendly accommodations in Shillong was crucial to staying within my limited budget. I opted for a budget-friendly hotel located in areas like Police Bazaar or Laitumkhrah. These areas offer a range of options catering to different budgets. Through diligent online research and comparison, I managed to secure a clean and comfortable room for two nights at an approximate cost of Rs. 1200 per night, allowing me to allocate more funds to other aspects of my trip.

Local Transportation

To save on transportation costs, I relied on shared taxis for my travel from Guwahati to Shillong and within Shillong. The shared cab fare from Guwahati to Shillong is approximately Rs. 300 per person, depending on the season and demand. Within Shillong, shared taxis are a common mode of transportation, offering affordable fares for local travel. The approximate cost per ride in a shared taxi ranges from Rs. 450 to Rs. 300, depending on the distance.

Sightseeing and Attractions

Shillong offers several attractions that can be enjoyed on a budget or with minimal entrance fees. The approximate cost of tickets to popular sightseeing spots in Shillong are as follows: Elephant Falls (Rs. 20), Shillong Peak (Rs. 30), and Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures (Rs. 100).
