For centuries, Marienplatz has been the commercial and political heart of München. Today it is dominated by the Gothic style towers of the New City hall, the Mariensäule column, and surrounded by churches and mansions showcasing the city's Gothic legacy.

The Tent Munich

This was by far my favorite hostel out of all hostels I stayed at in Europe. It had a laid-back and relaxing atmosphere, and felt exactly like a hippie commune. The staff was rather lovely and were more than willing to converse in English on pen and paper. They made sure I was satisfied and comfortable during my stay. The canteen was fantastic and very cheap as well - no more than 4-5 euros for a proper German meal, including beer or juice. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

About Munich

Hailed as the beer-capital of the world, Munich has always attracted the crowds on accounts of Bavarian brewing skills, especially during Oktoberfest when the entire continent, if not most of the western world find themselves in the annual celebration of Bavarian pride. There's much more to Munich than the city's approach to beer and the word seems to be getting around.Getting around in MunichCycles are mainstream, although renting one is not as easy as in Berlin but options exist. The U/S-Bahn and tram network will take you pretty much anywhere. A day ticket costs €6.40, but if you are staying longer, the 3-day ticket costs €16.
