Day 3: 2nd Sept 2018

This was the start of an actual adventurous road trip in Leh. We had already booked a tempo traveler for our entire Leh trip. I would highly suggest you book the same if you are travelling in a big group. Travelers are lot more comfortable for the long journeys.

Total Cost: INR 36,800 (SUV for 1 day for local sightseeing + traveler for Nubra and Pangong for 3 days + 3 tents in Pangong with dinner & breakfast + airport drop + 7 permits)

Relive my experience by watching my vlogs:

So, we started off by checking out of Zostel and left for Nubra. On the way we stopped at South Pullu to show our permits and also had our breakfast there at the Dogra tea stall.

Day 3

On the way you would cross the world's highest motorable pass: Khardung La at an elevation of 5,359 m. It was quite warm and sunny that day but at the Khardung La it was pretty cold and windy. So, make sure to keep your jackets handy.

Since, we had already done our breakfast, we just climbed up to the Khardungla Gompa, clicked some pictures there and left.

TIP: It is advised not to spend more than 15-20 minutes here as that may result in high altitude sickness and may give you severe headache later.

The entire journey is filled with beautiful scenery of the barren mountains, glacier streams running down these mountains and the magical unreal looking blue sky. Like literally the sky here was so unreal !! Just like a painting.

Next we stopped for our lunch at Happy restaurant in Khardung village. The food was okay, but then you have limited options in such a quaint village. This was around 2:00 pm.

After the lunch we drove for another 30 minutes and reached Hunder. This place is famous for the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag spot where you can see Farhan Akhtar training for the games in the movie. This place is also famous for its ATV rides. We spent good 40-50 minutes waiting for our turn since there are just 3 ATV bikes available here.

This was my first time on an ATV and boy did I enjoy !! I tried to operate the bike but the handles were too tight for me. So, I let the boy take control. And let me tell you the one pillion riding enjoys more. They take you over the sand dunes, stop by on a river side and click your pictures. Amazing experience !

Overall this was a fun experience and I would highly recommend this place.

Cost: INR 500 per person

It was now around 5 in the evening, so we left for Hunder where we spent the night at Wachan Guest house. Now, you have the option to stay in Diskit as well but we chose Hunder because it is quiet-er and closer to the Camel ride site which we had planned for the next day.

PS: We LOVED the guest house and the hosts were very warm and welcoming.

We had our dinner at a restaurant called Bonfire. It was close by and we loved the ambiance. But the food was a total disappointment. Not one item that we had ordered came out to be good. A big THUMBS DOWN from us.

The food at the guest house on the other hand was very homely and we relished their french fries.
