Gokarna is known for clean beaches. It is a small town on the western coast of India in the Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district of the state of Karnataka near the estuary of the river Aghanashini. It is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in South India. Gokarna is one of the most peaceful, clean and unspoiled travel destination for all beach and nature lovers around the world.

The main temple and deity is Lord Shiva, who is also known as Mahabaleshwara which is located at the banks of main beach, popularly known as "Gokarna Beach". Also, Gokarna means cow's ear. It is believed that Lord Shiva emerged from the ear of a cow (Prithvi, the Mother Earth) here. It is at the ear-shaped confluence of two rivers Gangavali and Aghanashini.

How to Travel to Gokarna(Karnataka): There are no direct buses, trains or flights to Gokarna. You can travel to Hubli or Goa and can take a Bus or Taxi from there. So lets's begin my journey. I am pretty sure that you all will love it.

Day 1

Hubli to Gokarna(149kms)

I have started my journey from "Hubli" by taking a local bus which is about 149kms for Gokarna Main Bus Station. The route from Hubli to Gokarna is amazing, full of nature, water and sea.

Welcome to the streets of Gokarna.

The Gokarna streets are very clean and mesmerizing and very well maintained, one can smell the fresh fragrance of rain sand and can take a deep breath all over. Nature and trees covering the roads and tiny lanes like a canopy and you will feel like entering the nature heaven as the distance passes by.

Gokarna Mahabaleshwara Temple:

We have now passed the streets and lanes of Gokarna and thereafter, you will find the ancient Shiva temple known as "Mahabaleshwara temple" is and it houses the 'Atmalinga'. It also contains the huge "Nandeeshwara" sacred cow named "Dhavalagiri".

Day 2

Breakfast and top view@Mantra cafe-The best food in Gokarna

Mantra cafe is located on the way to Kudle and Om beach. The food is delicious, hygienic with best service in the cafe and serving beverages.

Enjoy your time with football or cricket match on the big screen in the midst of the nature and tiny cave like architectural design.

Lastly, the beach view from the cafe is amazing for your early morning breakfast and lunch.

One of the best, beautiful, peaceful and cleanest beaches in South India: OM Beach

Let's go

Om beach is around 6 km from Gokarna town along a muddy hill; they are accessible by rickshaw or foot or by renting a two wheeler from local vendors nearby.

I must say, this beach is one of my favorite beaches in India. Om beach is named so because it is shaped like the auspicious ॐ Om symbol. Its scenic beauty, water, white sand, cleanliness, calmness and rocky mountains in the sea attracts the tourists deeply. It is widely spread and one can go for trekking and camping at the corner of the beach.
