Jayamangali Blackbuck Conservation Reserve is a perfect option for a weekend trip from Bangalore. The distance is 130 km and takes around 3 hours from Bengaluru!
This 798 acre wide Blackbuck reserve is situated in Maidenahalli, Tumkur. The area was notified as reserve forest in 2007, though since the late 80's Karnataka Forest Department made a constant effort to preserve this home of Blackbucks. Apart from Blackbuck, this forest is home to various mammals like the fox, wolf, mongoose, etc. There are more than 80 varieties of medicinal plants found here. Lots of different varieties of birds can be seen here. Especially during the winter months, many migratory birds make this forest their home.
One can take their vehicle and drive through the maze-like network of dirt trails, which is super exciting!
