Me and one of my friend where looking for a winter trek near Delhi, during the Christmas long weekend. After a long search we decide to visit Chopta in Uttarakhand.
Chopta is very famous for Tungnath Shiva temple which is the highest Shiva Temple.
Our journey started on a cold night from Nizammudin station, we boarded Nanda Devi Express till Haridwar.
On reaching Haridwar at around 5:30AM, we took shared cab towards Rudraprayag.
Note- Don't waste time and board the first transport that you get for Rudraprayag, as due to Char Dham road work several road block will be there.
On reaching Rudraprayag, get down at bypass which is before main market and take shared cab till Ukhimath.
From Ukhimath take public bus till Mastura, or a direct bus to Sari Village.
If you get down at Mastura, you can trek for around 1.5 KM, to reach Sari Village.
Sari Village is starting point for trek to a pristine lake of Deoria Tal.
We reached Sari village at around 6PM, with a pre-booked camp near Deoria Tal, so we had to trek during evening , under moonlight.
Deoria Tal is around 2.5KM from Sari village, trek route is well paved and easily accessible.
It took us around 2.5hrs to reach campsite, after taking rest and having dinner, we went to see the Deoria Tal, which was looking magnificent in clear moonlight.
Next moring we started our way back to Sari village, we took a cab till Chopta which cost around 1000rs
On reaching Chopta , we stayed in Moksha Cafe & Hotel it is very decent place to stay with great host.
Tungnath is around 3KM from Chopta and took around 4 Hours to reach there.
Tungnath is World's Highest Shiva temple,
From Tungnath Temple Chandrashila Peak is 1Km , the trek is very steep but view from top is mesmerizing.
