Visakhapatnam is a beautiful city. I recently went there on a work trip and stayed for over a month. Visakhapatnam has so much to offer-it simply has something of everyone. From beautifully curated seaside parks for kids to majestically carved temples for the religious souls, from breathtaking sea beaches to marvelous views of the majestic eastern ghats, Visakhapatnam would mesmerize everyone.

Being located between the Eastern ghats and the Bay of Bengal, the main attractions in Visakhapatnam are definitely the sea beaches. Visakhapatnam sea beaches are not just only sand and waves a visit to each beach is a unique experience. Here is a list of six different beaches in Visakhapatnam that would leave you with six different memories.

1. R.K Beach ( For Light House , Submarine Museum and Aircraft Museum )

R.K. Beach

This is the most popular beach in Visakhapatnam and it remains crowded with tourists and locals all throughout the day. However, if you truly want to experience the beach in all its glory, then you have to be an early riser. Wake up early and reach the beach side by 6.30am and get down at the 'All abilities park'. Enter the beach through the park and start walking left.

The gleaming golden morning sun and the crashing waves on the rocks would welcome you. You can see a series of ships anchored in the horizon. Keep walking left and then you can spot a red and white Light house. The light house is in a dilapidated state but the views all around would truly steal your heart.

Well, if you think you have experienced everything on the R.K. Beach in the morning, then you are mistaken. You have to come back again in the evening. Why? Because, how can your trip be complete without visiting the Submarine Museum and the Aircraft Museum. The timings of visiting these two museums are from 2pm to 8.30pm.A visit to these museums would leave you enriched. These museums are unique as you would be actually entering a real Navy Aircraft and a real Navy submarine. The submarine, known as INS Kurusura, played an important role during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

2.Rushikonda Beach ( For adventures in the sea)

If you are a daring person who is always on the lookout to indulge in adventure sports , then Rushikonda Beach is the one you must head to. This is another beach bustling with crowds- people playing with the waves , speed boats zooming past , scuba divers gearing up and hawkers selling 'Gobbari Bonda' (green coconut). You can choose from an array of water sports that are being offered by both Andhra tourism as well as private players. A ride on the Jumping speed boats speeding across the blue sea waters is just so thrilling!!!

3. Yarada Beach (For an exquisite sea beach experience surrounded by the hills of Eastern Ghats)

The road trip to this beach is an experience in itself. To reach the beach , you have to cross the eastern ghats and the journey would take you along snaking mountainous road which would make you doubt for a moment if you are in South India or the Himalayas in the North. You can see the Visakhapatnam city slowly becoming smaller and smaller and then you can see the lovely city sprawling across the rocky eastern ghats and the glistening blue waters of the Bay of Bengal. When you reach the beach , be ready to skip a heart beat again as the blue sea , the white sands, coconut groves and the garland of rocks welcome you.

4. Mangamaripeta Beach (For the Natural Arch)

If photographs of natural arches from foreign lands have mesmerized you, then there is news for you. You can experience the beauty of natural arches over deep blue sea waters in Visakhapatnam at Mangamaripeta Beach. This is a hidden spot and usually out of the radar of tourists. This means you can experience the beach to your heart's content by sitting on a rock and looking out at the sea.

5. Bheemili Beach ( For Fishing Village)

This beach is about 25km away from Visakhapatnam located in Bheemunipatnam. Bheemili beach is a beautiful beach with coconut groves, fine sand and waves crashing on the black rocks spread over the beach. Bheemunipatnam being a fishing village, you can visit quaint little fishing villages located close to the Bheemili beach. The red , yellow , blue, green boats on the dark blue waters of the Bay of Bengal looks really attractive!!

6.Tenneti Park Beach ( For Posing with a Real Ship!!!)

This is my favourite park and beach in all of Visakhapatnam. Located very close to the R.K beach , Tenneti Park has a lovely curated garden with lots of greenery and seating arrangements from where one can get the beautiful view of the endless blue sea merging with the blue sky, dotted with huge ancient boulders. To reach the beach one has to climb down a flight of steps carved out of the natural boulders. If elderly people find it difficult to climb down the steps, they can choose to sit on the park benches and enjoy the beautiful Bay of Bengal. The recent attraction on this beach is huge blue and orange ship from Bangladesh anchored here.

This ship, two years back, while waiting to enter the Visakhapatnam port floated away when its anchor broke and ran aground near Tenneti Park. Since then, this Ship has become an attraction at this beach and tourists and locals come here to pose with this ship.

I am sure you are planning to visit Visakhapatnam now. But wait!! This is not the best time to visit.

Best Time to visit?

So, when should you visit Visakhapatnam? The best time to visit is from November to March as it is during this time that the weather remains awesome- neither cold nor hot, just the perfect temperatures.

The best times of the day to visit these beaches are the dawn and the dusk.

Where to stay?

Visakhapatnam is a very popular tourist spot and hence it has a plethora of hotels to suit just any budget. However, I recently stayed at Hotel Rockdale for over a month and I just loved the food. The rooms were comfortable and the behaviour of the staff was amicable. The dinner buffet consisted of large number of dishes which included both local as well as north Indian cuisine. Although, Hotel Rockdale is a little away from the beach area but it is located close to the Jagadamba shopping area which is just the best place to indulge in Shopping.

These six beaches are definitely worth a visit. However the list of beaches that Visakhapatnam has in its treasure chest doesn't end here. Hence , do not forget to explore offbeat places and discover your own beaches and the unique experiences that one can enjoy there.
