This happened as an impromptu plan for a family who just decided to get together on a long weekend. My family always does this whenever we plan to see each other it ends up being a family trip..lucky right? well yes I am lucky that way.My parent have always pushed me to travel and see the world. So it was 14th Aug we had a closed holiday next day due to independence day and a weekedn thereafter. So we decided to meet at Jaipur.my brother who works at delhi and my parents from hyderabad flew all the way to have a short weekend with us.the places we decided this time was chittorgarh to see the Chittorgarh fort.

Day 1

Exploring the Chittorgarh Fort

Day one we just started the trip from Jaipur to Chittorgarh and mind you it's a beautiful highway which is full of beautiful landscapes both the sides. It took us 5 to 6 hrs to cover distance of 252 KM's via NH 48.We had already booked a beautiful resort called Castle Narela Lake resort. It was right next to the highway but little far from the city and that made it all the more peaceful. The property is beautiful with great service and affordable rooms .They were kind enough to give us check in at 2100 and dinner was served hot.

Also I must tell you despite Rajasthan being a dry and arid zone the weather was blissful It kept raining all night and we woke up to a beautiful view.

Day 2

After a fulfilling breakfast, despite the mild showers we decided to go ahead with the trip. decided to keep it short and simple. plan was to explore the Chittorgarh fort and city market and wrap up the day.For those who do not know Chittorgarh is India's largest fort in area and the fort itself comprises of more than 100 temples and close to 80 water bodies(although I could spot only 10 and this info has been spelt out by our guide). Also for additional information this is the actually place where queen Padmini had performed "Johar"(apologies in advance if spelt differently) after her husband martyred in the battle. So I am a history lover so I really love the idea of exploring a historical site with a guide and reading about it and connecting the entire story.we started exploring the Chittorgarh fort with the help of a guide and it started pouring heavily. The rain was so bad that you just cannot even step out of the car without an umbrella..so what we do a family of 5 hired 4 umbrellas yes easily available for 50rs each.we continued with our crazy mad day and trust me it was soo worth it.The Chittorgarh fort has beautiful history and various stories attached to it.This fort also has the Meera bai temple where she was given poison,in an attempt to kill her but lord Krishna blessed her with life due to her devotion (ok in case you don't know this mythological story please google it's a very famous one).So like I was saying entire day we spent at the Chittorgarh fort, had hot tea and Maggie in the amazing rain and sat by the beautiful lake in the fort.By the end of the tour you realise India has such a vast and colourful history that visiting each corner of it in a lifetime is nearly impossible. After the fort we went to the local market and like Rajasthan it was all colourful and vibrant.we had lots of leather bags and shoes option too but I'm afraid they are camel leather products and I don't buy real leather/fur ever so didn't try that .Once done we had some street delicacies like kachori and tea and went back to hotel.

Day 3

Day three we were supposed to go back but by the advantage of being just next to Gesunda dam, which is actually just outside the resort. The weather being all rainy it was the perfect time to visit the dam.so we spent some time there and decided to go back.I don't have much pics from that day as i wanted to stay in the moment and not just be behind a lens. However some points for you all you must have heard Rajasthan is perfect in winters but I'll suggest you can try Chittorgarh in monsoons too somewhere after July to September. The terrain being mountains you have beautiful view around you and don't worry about roads, they are just perfect for a road trip. You can plan Chittorgarh as a weekend getaway from Jaipur or a two day trip as well.Just remember to book hotels/resorts in prior as there are very few good options available.
