Take gov bus from chandigarh to manali Dnt do any prebooking of hotel. After reaching bus stand, you will get hotels at Rs500 for two. For more tips read my post on tripoto " Best ten days itinerary ti himalayas from delhi"
upvoteUpvotemessageComment
Hi, manali can be easily done in 3000-4000 rupees from delhi to delhi. 1. take ordinary hrtc bus to and from delhi 2. stay in hostels and homestays instead of hotels. you can get a bed in a hostel dorm at 200 bucks per night. 3. don't splurge on food. eat at local indian dhabas, and eat at nice cafes only once or twice. 4. walk. don't use rickshaws/ taxis. you can also try hitchhiking. this can only be possible if you let go of unnecessary comforts. enjoy!

Choosing a trip to Spiti valley and Kasol is like choosing between Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Honey Singh; one must need to fix what he/she wants to do in his trip; comparing these two places is utter stupidity. Ask yourself the following questions (presuming you are in a trip): Do you prefer: (a) a hectic trip with lots of travel via bad roads, (b) leisure relaxed travel via good roads Can you pull yourself outside your comfort zone? (a) limited food, limited toilet facility, electricity crisis, (b) home like comfort Are you rich? (a) No you really have limited budget. (b) You can spend a lot on this trip Do you like crowded tourist places? (a) No (b) Yes Do you like being close to the nature? (a) Yes, (b) No Do you like exploring new culture? (a) Yes (b) Yes Do you prefer: (a) barren Himalaya, (b) green Himalaya Do you love photography? (a) Yes (b) Not that much Do you smoke weeds and drink a lot? (a) No, (b) Yes Do you love adventure? (a) Yes, (b) No Now, if you find most of your answers are (a), choose Spiti else choose (b). Spiti is way too beautiful, calm and enjoyable place for a adventurous tourist compared to Kasol. Kasol hardly have any scenic beauty. If Spiti is Katrina Kaif Kasol is Sonam Kapoor. Kasol is Ganja paradise and full of Israeli hippies who just smoke and dance. It is very favourite place to college going teens for a weekend trip. In 7 days, you can do couple of treks near Kasol (Kheerganga, Malana Village etc), but honestly in terms of beauty they are nothing close to Spiti. A extensive trip to Spiti requires some fitness if you are alone and commuting via public transport. If you noticed question (6) has both options yes, well, if Kasol is mini Israel, Spiti is mini Tibet. The Buddhist culture in Spiti (Kaza, Tabo, Dhankar, Losar etc) is something nice to see. While Kasol is full of thugs, Spiti is blessed with some of the best humans I have ever seen. Now dont get me wrong that I am saying Spiti is better than Kasol. Kasol is not a worthy place in terms of natural beauty, it is a place to spend lazy weekend, smoke hashish etc. It is entirely depends on the tourists purpose.

Kasol ll be a better option to go for given the climate in the coming days

Best time to visit is from June to october. But if you want to go for Chadar trek, then jan and feb are only months..
upvoteUpvotemessageComment
I visited Ladakh last year in August. When you ask for best time, it is really subjective to what do you call a best time. In August, during the day it was really hot there and nights were pleasant. Also there was very little snow to be seen at Khardungla Pass which will be on your itinerary when you visist Ladakh. So weather wise August was not the best time. Also will you be going to Ladakh via Manali or Srinagar or directly landing there? If going via Manali, Rohtang Pass will be shut from October till April so that too will impact your decision. I would suggest going in end May/ June considering the route and weather in mind.
