Kochi is 1500kms from mumbai. You could cover Rathnagiri, and through Malvan enter Panaji. Then head to Gokarna, Udupi, mangalore and via Kasargod enter Kerala. Payyanur, kannur, thalassery, Kozhikode, Thrissur, perumbavoor and via ernakulam enter Kochi. On the way there are places like Alibaug, Dapoli, murdeshwar, mahe, nilambur to cover, if you are taking Goa route from mumbai. Another route is via Belgaum that is Lonavala, Satara entering Belgaum route you drive till Tumkur. Then via Bangalore reach Palghat. Then from palghat reach Kochi in 5 hours. Cost depends on the number of days you plan to ride and place of stay.

Lambasinghi is a lovely spot called as Kashmir of Andhrapradesh, which is green during Summers.
Hussain Sagar Lake is one such lovely spot covered with water and greenery on some parts of the end of the lake.
NTR gardens is awesome so much of green amidst children park, play area and great flora. Reddy botanical garden is another green spot, while Malaka cheruvu is a green historic spot popular sunset spot too.

There seems to be more of hostel facilities than dorms. However found a few through Agoda, booking.com for you to check. Kindly go through the above websites, hoping it would be suitable for your travel.

If you are planning to stay in the airport for those hours you don't need a transit visa. If you are planning to move out of the airport and then again enter back you need a transit visa.
