Unexplored Mountains and Land of Apples - Thachi Valley in Himachal

Hey Backpackers

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you wish to go to mountains ? To my understanding it's the peace and serenity that attracts me the most , but these days most of the mountain visit in the peak season seems to not serve this purpose . You discuss about a place to visit in the extended weekends and you find 3 of your other colleagues are also planning to visit the same place . Like in 2017 90% of the newly married couple went to Maldives for their Honeymoon :P .

I have been to a over-crowded Manali, Mussorie, Kasol but thankfully just to board the bus because everytime we have focused on staying at a secluded place like when we went to Manali we stayed at Old Manali which was 4-5kms above Manali and in Mussorie we stayed at Landour which was 7kms above the over crowded mountains.

So this last new year we planned to go to Thachi Valley in Himachal Pradesh considering the fact that we only wished to visit the calm and serenity of the mountains and not the over hyped places.

How to reach from Delhi?

The place is 10-11 hrs from Delhi and 1 hr from Aut Station. You can board bus heading to Manali from Majnu ka tila or Kashmeeri Gate and get down at Aut station and take a private car from there till Thachi Valley.

I have motion sickness problem in mountains therefore I have the fear of bus journeys but trust me you don't feel much of it as you don't have to face much of spiral routes on your way till Thachi.

Where did we stay?

Ah!! Don't expect that once you are sure about the place you can look for hotel options on different online sites .No !!That won't work , as the place is non-commercialized so hotel options are shut for you. Exactly what you need to do is that stay at localite place or in tents, wooden houses ,camps. So this is only route way out for you ( http://www.thachivalley.com/). But trust me it will be worth every penny.

So this is the best part of my writing where I am reliving all my memories of 4 days trip. My new year gateway 2018 in the most peaceful way. Trust me from mountains serenity to trekking, from unexpected snowfall evening to new year party in himachali style .We experienced it all.

We boarded our bus and reached Aut station and took a cab form there till Thachi. As soon as we recahed we freshened up and left for an uncalled 8 hours trek of approximately 10-11 Kms. This was my first ever experience of such long trek schedule and I was completely unprepared but with my fitness regime of minimum 4 days workout in a week I manged to complete that trek without any food and some half litre of water. Let me tell you guys when we went in the end of December 2017 the place was completely deserted with no shops, cafe and not even houses. It was miles and miles of barren land on those mountains with no one around you. So, if you plan to trek here please carry something with you water, ORS, peanut butter or anything that suits you.

What cuisine or cafe you can explore??

Let me tell you in this four days I haven't had any junk as there were no shops, cafes or anything but I completely enjoyed the ghar ka khana which was dal, roti, rajma, sabzi, rice. I am not sure how is it now but a year back there was nothing. You might find one or two joints far off selling chai, maggie or anda. But earlier there were no proper cafe or dhaba. We had amazing home cooked chicken, no restaurants can beat that taste. So what i believed was that fresh air and fresh food was the essence of my Thachi trip.

A new day a new year 1st January 2018 we started exploring the village , went to the local market, spoke to few locals. Trust me , the place was not at all commercialized but the locals were ascertain about the fact that soon there will be hotels , guest houses, cafes and more tourists. Around 2pm it started snowing and twas the bestest feeling for me.I was completely blown away by my first ever snow experience. Snow on any object made it look charismatic be it on trees, leaves, houses, roads, humans, animals or anything. Bonfire, maggi, chai, music and snow what else one would want, a blessed evening I must say, everything seemed so much in place and perfect. We had home cooked chicken for dinner and with temperature around -4,-5 degrees. We clinged new year bell and went off to sleep
