When visiting Japan, the first thing that comes to the mind of a vegetarian traveller is food. People usually find it difficult to get vegetarian food in Japan especially in the remote areas. I have been living in Japan for almost 4 years now and I have had the opportunity to explore many Vegetarian restaurants. In this article, I will list down some good Vegetarian options in Tokyo. Let's look at the best vegetarian restaurants in Tokyo:

1. Mr. Farmer

Mr. farmer is a famous restaurant chain in Tokyo that serves vegan/vegetarian/non-vegetarian/gluten-free food. At the time of writing this article, it is present at 5 places in Tokyo namely Komazawa, Hibiya, Ebisu, Shinjuku and omotesando.

Cuisine type: vegetarian/vegan/Non-vegetarian/Gluten-free/Organic

Genre: American

Pros: Beautiful ambience, tasty food.

2. Milan Nataraj

Milan Nataraj is a vegetarian restaurant in Shibuya, Tokyo. It has another store located in Omotesando.

Cuisine type: vegetarian/vegan

Genre: Indian

Pros: Fully vegetarian. Non-vegetarian dishes are not served here. It is a good option for pure vegetarian people.

Cons: They might put egg in Naan [Hindi:"नान"] (a type of Indian bread). So it is better to confirm it before ordering if you don't eat egg.

3. Nirvanam

At the time of writing this article, Nirvanam is currently at 2 locations in Tokyo namely Ginza and Kamiyacho.

Cuisine type: vegetarian/Non-vegetarian

Genre: Indian

Pros: Lunch Buffet is available costing 1200 Yen which is cost effective from Japan's point of view.

Cons: If you are visiting in winters the served buffet doesn't stay hot for long and the staff doesn't do much to keep it warm.

4. Shake Shack

Vegetarian burgers are rare in Japan. The only reason shake shack is on this list is because of that one vegetarian burger they serve named the "Shroom burger". When you are not in the mood to eat a lot but a single burger would suffice then this is the place to head. It is a saviour for me always.

Cuisine type: vegetarian/Non-vegetarian

Genre: American

Pros: Fast food chain offers drinks, snacks, ice creams and one vegetarian burger. Located at 8 places in Tokyo.

Cons: Only 1 vegetarian burger and cheese fries are available for vegetarians.

5. Dominos

If there is nothing, dominos will be your saviour. There are 2-3 vegetarian pizza available at the time of writing this article. Also, pizza burgers, shakes and fries are available.

Cuisine type: vegetarian/Non-vegetarian

Genre: Italian

Pros: A few outlets are open till 1am. Available almost everywhere.

Cons: Only 2-3 vegetarian options.
