Due to its lush greenery and dense plantation, Cubbon Park in Bengaluru is known as the green ‘lung’ of the city.

With over 5000 plants and trees covering over 300 acres, it’s a ‘breath of fresh air’ tucked away in the concrete jungle #cubbonpark

Cubbon Park, otherwise known as Sri Chamarajendra Park, is a prominent landmark in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Founded in the 19th century, this park is literally in the heart of the city connecting the other famous historical buildings and monuments such as Vidhana Soudha, High Court of India, museums, Chinnaswamy Stadium, and also connecting well known streets such as MG road, Brigade road, and so on.

Named after Sir Mark Cubbon, this park was later dedicated to Maharaja Chamarajendra Wodeyar during Mysore kingdom.

The park is usually open throughout the day except during the wee morning hours i.e., from 6 am - 8 am which is considered a silent zone and vehicles aren't allowed in the premises allowing the joggers and walkers to enjoy the tranquility of the place

It's a great picnic spot amongst the families - seated underneath the shaded trees and enjoying their meals together while kids play Frisbee, Board games, hide and seek and so on. There is also Jawahar Bal Bhavan which is a recreation space dedicated to children which includes a Toy train and a play area (currently under renovation)

There are Band Stands (Gazebos) in the park where they used to play live music every Sunday. My father shares a fond memory of him visiting every Sunday evening along with his friends (during 1977’s) just for the orchestra.

The park has multiple entry points, parking lot, restrooms, walking paths, sitting benches and abundance of flora and fauna which is home to many birds. There is also a statue of Queen Victoria at one of the entrances (near the Aquarium)
