Located in Maharashtra's Thane district, Palghar is a large town full of historic and pilgrim spots. The Kelva Fort, dating back to the 16th century, was built by the Portuguese and used by Shivaji for defence purposes. It is a great place for those interested in history, art, architecture and photography. The Kelva Beach is close to the fort, so the two can be visited together. The Shirgaon Fort is another beautiful fort that is surrounded by lush green palm trees, which makes the place very attractive. Palghar also has several great temples. Ram Temple is a historic temple in the Kapad Bazar of Palghar that is full of devotees during the festival of Ram Navmi. Sheetla Devi Temple is situated near the beach of Kelva and is famous for its unique goddess idol. Palghar's Manor town is a must see here. Famous for its earthenware, Manor is absolutely peaceful and a favourite tourist getaway.
