DESTINATION 2: SPITUK MONASTERYNext destination was the grand Spituk Monastery, dating to the 11th century. While here, we can see the statues of Lord Buddha and yes, don't miss the panoramic view of the Indus valley below.
Next you can visit the Spituk Gompa or Monastary. This one has a steep flight of steps to reach the top where the Gompa is located. There are huge statues of different idols whose faces are covered with cloth inside the Gompa. Every year, Gustor Festival is held at Spituk from the 27th to 29th day in the eleventh month of the Tibetan calendar. In addition, you will get a breathtaking view of the Leh Airport with flights taking off and landing in the distance.
Reach Spituk before night from Leh and take accommodation with one of the many families here, who charge around Rs. 200 for the night stay, dinner and breakfast. Alternatively, you could pitch your own tent if you like to and get food from these families or from the tea-tents.
