Kollam Tourism & Travel Guide

The view of the gravelled trail from the Thangassery lighthouse towards the Kollam Port is probably the prettiest view you'll get of the city leading into the ocean. Kollam or Quilon has been thriving as a trading port since time immemorial. The colonial influences can be seen in the ruins and relics that dot Kollam extensively. The 13-arch bridge is one of India’s oldest mountain railways and still holds strong. The Thangassery church and fort are extensions of the lighthouse of which only remains are left. Kochupilamoodu has a model park on the beach and Thirumullavaram beach is ideal for a relaxing swim or a bath. What is most attractive about Kollam is the coconut trees lining the water, traditional villages and cashew plantations that surround the backwaters of Ashtamudi Lake. A cruise on the blue-green stretches of water is a major attraction for the views it provides. The Chinese fishing nets or 'Cheena Vala' against the sunset can be a magical sight that one may come across on the backwaters or the beaches.
Best time to visit Kollam is from November to February

British Residency, Asramam, Kerala 691002
This is cluster of buildings in Lucknow which were built by and during the time of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan, the ruler of Lucknow during 1800 AD. These were buildings erected to serve as the residences of the British Officials of the East India Company who were posted over here. This is also an important site of the freedom fight of India. Once there was a dangerous seige and a firing which claimed innumerable number of lives and witnessed the revengeful victory of the British generals. Later during a canon fire, this cluster of old buildings got destroyed majorly and still remain that way in spite of being a Heritage Site.
