Rudra Nath Tourism & Travel Guide

Rudranath is a Hindu sanctuary devoted to god Shiva, situated in the Garhwal Himalayan mountains in Uttarakhand, India. Perched at 3,600 meters (11,800 ft) above ocean level. The sanctuary is the third sanctuary to be gone by in the Panch Kedar journey circuit, including five Shiva sanctuaries in the Garhwal area. Other popular sanctuaries in the circuit include: Kedarnath and Tungnath which should be covered before Rudranath and Madhyamaheshwar or Madmaheshwar and Kalpeshwar . The face (mukha) of god Shiva is adored as "Nilkanth Mahadeva" here. The Rudranath sanctuary is said to be set up by the Pandavas, the legends of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Legend says that the Pandavas went to the Himalayan mountains looking for god Shiva, to recover them of the wrong doings of murdering in the epic Kurukshetra war. This is a must visit place for all the people who worship lord Shiva and have interest in Mahabharata.
