Loktak lake: Loktak lake one of the amazing places to visit in Northeast India is a huge and beautiful stretch of water spread up to 300 sq kms in area and looks like a miniature island. This largest fresh water lake in northeast India is located in Bishnupur district of Manipur, it is also called the only floating island in the world, Loktak can be best seen and felt in a country boat, it is situated about 48 kms from Imphal the capital town. Dawki (Umngot River): It is about 82kms from shilling the capital city Of Meghalaya and two hours’ drive from Mawlynnong. On approaching Dawki is the Umngot river, the venue of the annual boat race held during March – April at Umsyiem. It is close to the Indo-Bangla border, the Umngot River’s clear waters is a secret that is just being discovered. Schools of fish are clearly visible and make for brilliant fishing & water sports! War Cemetery (Kohima): Across the main street of Kohima you can see the beautiful war cemetery of 1200 Indian and British soldiers who died fighting the Japanese soldiers, on the entrance you can see the famous lines engraved, “WHEN YOU GO HOME TELL THEM OF US AND SAY FOR YOUR TOMORROW WE GAVE OUR TODAY”. The cemetery is beautiful with a well manicured garden and far from the gloomy look which one usually associates with such a place. Across the gently rising hills are stone markers which commemorate the name of the soldiers who laid down their lives, the soldiers died on the battleground of Garrison Hill in the tennis court area of the Deputy Commissioner’s residence. This cemetery bears testimony to both its symbolism and beauty. The best time to visit the War Cemetery is during summers, when the temperatures are pleasant and cool.
