Exploring the vibrance of Banaras

Bananas was on my ‘must-visit’ list since a long time, for reasons unknown. Even though I avoid crowded places but as far as Bananas is concerned, I was always fascinated to see what I heard from everyone who visits Bananas. I guess certain fascinations are beyond explanation.

If one wants to heat the silence in one’s heart while amidst an ocean of noises, Banaras is the city to be in. The vibrance of the city is unmatchable. A popular saying goes like- ‘Banaras is not for the faint hearted’. Now I understand the reasons. While walking across the ghats spread across an area of 7 kms, one will encounter sadhus, boats, tourist, devotees, bulls, cremations and yes loads and loads of dung and filth lying all over. Therefore one needs to be in an ‘I can face it all’ mode while walking across the ghats

Many must have suggested it before but I would want to reiterate, the Ganga aarti is a must see. I attended for all 3 evenings I was there, and again, for reasons unknown. The aarti leaves one feeling light headed.

Banaras has something to offer for everybody. If you want to have a moment of solitude, take an early morning boat rise to see the sun rays create a magical illumination on the holy waters of Ganges. Want to be a part of the celebrations, participate in the multiple yagnas and festivities on the ghats, want to get away from the ghats for a bit, head out to the city to shop, eat, read and to get lost in the crowd.
