Ladakh :

Ladakh is a region in the northern and eastern part of the Indian subcontinent, bordering Tibet, Pakistan, and China. It is known for its high-altitude landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and strategic location. Ladakh is administered by India as a union territory, and has two districts: Leh and Kargil. Ladakh has a cold and dry climate, with very little precipitation and extreme temperature variations. The main sources of livelihood are agriculture, animal husbandry, and tourism. Ladakh is home to diverse religious groups, including Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus. Ladakh is also famous for its monasteries, festivals, and adventure sports. Ladakh is often called "the roof of the world" or "the land of high passes" because of its elevation and rugged terrain.

1.Leh Palace :

Leh Palace is a former royal palace overlooking the town of Leh, Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas. It was constructed circa 1600 by Sengge Namgyal.Leh Palace of India comprises of nine stories in toto. It has been deserted since the 1830s, when the royal families of Ladakh were exiled to the Stok Palace. Years of neglect have resulted in the palace being reduced to ruins. Towering above the Leh palace is a huge tower, known as the 'Victory Tower', which was built to celebrate the victory of the Ladakhi soldiers in the early 16th century, over the attacking army of Balti Kashmiris. However, the canon balls fired by the Kashmiris have left the palace quite weak.

2.Khardung La :

Khardung La or Khardung Pass is a mountain pass in the Leh district of the Indian union territory of Ladakh. The pass is on the Ladakh Range, north of Leh, and connects the Indus river valley and the Shyok river valley. It also forms the gateway to the Nubra valley, beyond which lies the Siachen Glacier. A motorable road through the pass was built in 1976, and opened to public motor vehicles in 1988. Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry supplies to the Siachen Glacier. The road is one of the world's highest motoroable roads.

Thikse Gompa or Thikse Monastery is a gompa affiliated with the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located on top of a hill in Thiksey approximately 19 kilometres east of Leh in Ladakh, India.

4.Hall of Fame :

Hall of Fame is a museum constructed by the Indian Army in memory of the brave Indian soldiers who laid down their lives defending the motherland in the Indo-Pak wars. The Hall of Fame museum is located on the Leh-Kargil Road, about 4km from the city of Leh.

Namgyal Tsemo Monastery or Namgyal Tsemo Gompa is a Buddhist monastery in Leh city of Leh district, Ladakh, northern India. Founded by King Tashi Namgyal of Ladakh, it has a three-story high gold statue of Maitreya Buddha and ancient manuscripts and frescoes. It is situated near the Tsemo Castle

8.Fotu La:

Fotu La or Fatu La is a mountain pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway in the Zanskar Range of the Himalayas in India. At an elevation of 4,108 metres, it is the highest point on the highway, surpassing the famed Zoji La. Fotu La is one of two high mountain passes between Leh and Kargil, the other being Namika La.

10.Bardan Monastery:

Bardan Monastery or Bardan Gompa is a 17th-century Buddhist monastery, approximately 12 kilometres south of Padum, in Zanskar, Ladakh, northern India at the side of the Lungnak river. The monastery also ran several smaller hermitages in the area.

11.Hanle Monastery:

Hanle Monastery is a 17th-century gompa of the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism located in the Hanle Valley, Leh district, Ladakh, India on an old branch of the ancient Ladakh-Tibet trade route. The valley is home to about a thousand people, with about 300 people living in Hanle village.

12.Leh Market :

Not a market as such but the main street of the town with shops of all descriptions in a pedestrianised area. Many pashmina stores, Tibetan market, refugee market selling tourist items at decent prices, normal food stores, restaurants, but these are generally on the higher floors above shops. A very pleasant vibrant area, colourful with a great mountain background.
