There are two main routes to take when exploring the gondola ride in Venice. The first is around the canals themselves, while the other takes you up the elevator to the top of the Grand Canal. Each offers its own unique set of experiences. If you want to visit the famous gondola ride in Venice with the beautiful sunset, then the canal route is the ideal place to begin with. However, if you are planning to go for an excursion to the canals and sightseeing along the rivers as well as taking a day trip to Pisa, then the Grand Canal is the perfect place to begin.

When taking a gondola tour in Venice, we took the first two canals to see the amazing sunset over the city as well as strolling along the river itself. We also made sure to stop by the Piazza di Spagna, where we had a wonderful time enjoying the panoramic views and shops before visiting one of the most important attractions in Venice, the Santa Maria Novella. This attraction is arguably one of the best art museums in the world, as well as a World Heritage site, so we were eager to spend some time exploring this area.

As we neared the end of the canal, it was time for the ride back. While I normally dislike heights, I found myself looking forward to the experience as it happened to be one of my favourite places in Venice. I remember feeling the water splash as I looked down at the boat moving quietly across the water and wondering what it was going to pull me out of it. It truly was an incredible experience. The gondola we took was actually the Venice gondola, and as we passed through the piazza the tourists around us started to gather and get excited as they saw the beautiful boat moving quietly on the water. It really was a breathtaking scene.

As we made our way back to our Venice hotel, it was obvious that the excitement had not passed. All of the tourists that had been on the gondola ride with us had a much more enthusiastic look about life than I did. Clearly something had to let us know that life could be better than it was for us, in this case it was the reality of Venice that we came away from. After our short Venice tour, it was obvious that we had all taken something away with us from this incredible city. Thanks to some amazing guides, we ended up having another gelato experience just like the one we had enjoyed the first time.
