Day 97

Bruges,Belgium

I am Pooja Bhardwaj , an avid traveller you can check out my Instagram feed @tryingtocrosstheglobe I would love to take you and readers around this little fairy tale town called Bruge. Every year, the historic merchant city witnesses a tourist invasion from March until about October, and the coldest of months still see budget travellers braving its slightly crooked Belfry. Romance, Michelin stars and tons of no stalgia. I immediately fell in love with this little fairy town. With beautiful squares surrounded by gingerbread houses and cobbled alleys running alongside pretty canals, Bruges is a city adored by love birds. They flock to the Belgian town for its picturesque parks, old world hotels and sentimental legends. The Minnemeer (Lake of Love), for instance, was named for the romance between Mina and her warrior sweetheart, Stromberg; their folkloric tale ends tragically with the girl’s death, but Stromberg buried her underneath the little lake, and now every couple that kisses on its bridge is promised everlasting love. The best thing is you can discover underground breweries here, the best beer in the world is here. It is know as Venice of North for a reason. The best Belgium chocolates are here. People on a tour don’t generally prefer to stay here they take a one day trip from Amsterdam. But I ll definitely suggest to stay atleast for a day here and in real terms enjoy this town. I bet you won’t regret. From the classic boat ride to lush castle surroundings every sight here is beautiful. The Belgian City of Bruges is so pretty it’s almost too good to be true. Belgium is famous for its frites—and the Friet Museum gives visitors a chance to sample fried potatoes and various complementary sauces. Worlds first French fries museum, amazing isn’t it. And oh yes do not forget to indulge into hot chocolate, amazing worlds best chocolates, and Belgium waffles. You ll regret if you miss any of the above things

Bruges is only 45 minutes from Brussels, so it’s easy to get there directly by train (with Eurostar trains running from London to Brussels in 1 hour 48 minutes) or from Brussels airport. Once you arrive, the city’s compact and easy to get around by foot.
