Mandalpatti Reviews

I had a single day left as part of my trip to Coorg, and I was confused if I wished to cover Brahmangiri hills to visit the origin of river Kaveri or should I visit Mandalpatti peak. The confusion got settled when I figured that as a sunset lover I might find more peace at the peak and also spend some time with myself and the setting sun. The journey to Mandalpatti is very interesting itself, as the roads that lead to the peak are in bad condition, there are jeeps available for you to hire that also run on sharing basis. For a minimal amount, I hired the jeep and so started the journey, the road were in very bad condition due to which many tourists or travelers were unable to get their private cars to the top which also somewhere works as a profit point got these jeep drivers as it works as their livelihood and business. The jeep that I had hired, ran out of fuel but we weren't that far from the peak so we walked and made it. There you have to buy a pass of 25 rs and then yous tart your 5 minutes climb to the peak point. Upon reaching I found that it too was crowded and many people just the way I did, decided to visit this peak today, I wanted to do some photography so I decided to find place a little bit away from all the hustle and as I looked around I saw another peak which no one seem to be climbing, it was 25 minutes climb and I decided to take it. On the way to the other peak I had a very interesting rendez vous with the herd of bees, 1000 of bees seem to be flowing away with the wind, my instant reaction was to get down on the ground, but the moment they were all gone I got up and I was laughing on my interesting adventure. It was the best decision i could have made though. After reaching the other peak, I could seem that there was no one around and the view was so serene and peaceful, I could also see some forest fires on my right and the moment I turned to my left i saw the sun, and after a little while when it was time for the sun to set which came too soon, I could see the Horizon., It was the most beautiful moment of my life, I had never seen the horizon so clear and Visible and I could see the whole process of the sun setting and I was there, I was a part of it.
The path was rocky and steep incline. I had to drive at a speed ranging from 10 to 30kmph. It was difficult and I was afraid I might slip. . I had to be really careful. Yes , proper constructed roads did appear on the way in patches but as I ascended, the road became worse. Sometimes I was just driving on the rocks. After a ride of 2 hrs or more I arrived at the entry gate from where the top was 3 kms away. There was no road now. Only sandy paths. Soon there was no path suitable to drive even a two wheeler, so I parked my bike nearby and hiked rest of the way. It was a little exhausting but the views were amazing. . First I saw a peak and I thought that it was the top (mandalpatti) , then as I reached the top, I saw 2 bigger peaks. I had to climb them. No other way. After hiking for about 45 minutes, I finally reached the top and felt amazing and as I reached I realized that I was all alone up there. But I had myself. Soon after I started to descend and get back to my bike. At 4:10pm I reached my bike and started going back. I thought it might be more difficult and time consuming to drive the same way back But on my way back, I reached back to soulmate stay within 1 hour. Ain't that amazing. I freshen up and took a shower and then I watched TV and slept for half an hour. At 7 I searched for places to eat online and decided that I will eat dinner at Coorg cuisine. I also remembered that my friend suggested to try the cheese cake at the French bakery and so I did. I decided first I would eat main course at Coorg cuisine followed by desert at the French bakery. At Coorg cuisine, I had a pork dish, a chicken dish, rice dumplings and rice chapati. Ask of these dishes were just amazing and next level. Then I went to the French bakery where I tired the chocolate cheesecake. I was purely amazing and I clicked some pics of it. I also complimented them for the amazing cheesecake. As I asked for the bill, they said it is complimentary and I was surprised. Like I didn't even tell them about my YouTube channel yet and then also. It was really amazing on their part. Then I went back to homestay and Sherri early at 10 30 pm.

Jeep arrived and I selected the back seat of the jeep which is good for photography. We headed towards a point called “Shooting point” or “Mandalpatti hills”. The breathtaking view by going on the hilly roads enjoying each and every moment of the beauty of the place. Roads were like a roller coaster ride, steep rise and slopes, curvy roads, potholes which almost broke our backs we avoided the pain as it gave us a thrilling experience in the lap of nature. After 30 minutes of ride we started reaching the heights. I have seen people getting private cars which is really dangerous. Only hired jeeps are allowed in at the peak area and private cars need to be parked at the gate and need to walk. All the jeeps there are equipped with a 4x4 drive, hence they can take on the terrain which other vehicles wouldn't be able to. We continued till the last point in the jeep and my God, was the worst bumpy ride especially in the rainy season roads were worst. Roads were small and scary as we were above the clouds, heading towards the peak, it was misty, shivery cold and little rainy, the views and panorama felt heavenly which made me realize the happiness of being close to nature is magical and heals the soul. We continued... The entire road was too bumpy and down there was a valley. Reached at the last point of the hill. Down there was valley which was “Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary” (written on an arch). Returned half a kilometer and driver stopped the jeep at a beautiful place. We got down the jeep to click few pictures towards the valley. Suddenly, the wind started pushing us hard towards the valley.. (Reminded me of the movie Everest where wind keeps pushing them). Now the worst part it started to rain along with the wind. We were hiding our cameras in the jackets took shelter behind the jeep. In two minutes we all were completely drenched. Sad that we had to leave the point without clicking any photographs. Managed to click few while going up. This was the best experience ever in my life and was overwhelmed by the beauty of nature. Jeep dropped us near our car.
