Climbing up a small mountain peak and witnessing astonishing views of the landscape around. Isn't it a heavenly and divine feeling?
Who would want to miss such an opportunity? I am not one of them and I did not during my trip to Himachal Pradesh. The stunning experience I am speaking about is the climb upwards or trek to Dainkund Peak in Dalhousie.
It was worth trying even if there were steep walks and ups and downs throughout the journey. The soothing breeze and the refreshing air are the key alluring factors for a traveler or an adventure lover. And I bet I am one of them!
Let me share my experience of visiting Dainkund peak and I think I can convince you all to trek up the peak whenever you plan your itinerary for Himachal Pradesh.
Key facts about Dainkund peak
Perched at a height of about 2755 meters above sea level, Dainkund Peak is the highest point in Dalhousie. It is the best place in the hill station to feel the myriad beauty of nature. The end of the trek leads to the Pholani Devi Temple and from the start of the trek you can check the Air Force base. One can go camping as well at the peak. If you love nature and want to engulf in the beauty of the scenery around you, a visit to the peak is a must.
The trekking journey:
The trekking journey along the trails of Dainkund peak extends for a stretch of about 4.5 km. It is a moderate trek with steep climbs but mostly across concrete steps and paths. The pathways are safe and well maintained. There are rest areas at certain points of the journey where you can sit and relax to catch your breath.
As for me, I normally check my stamina level and fitness when I go for a trek or a walk. And this time I had to stop only once and mostly to view the scenic beauty around. Photographs are a must at such an enticing place, so some breaks are worth in between.
A gate leads the path to the trekking trail. Just beside the gate, there is a road that leads to the Airforce base and is a restricted zone with no photography. The entire stretch is surrounded by the deodar and the green fir trees.
There are a few roadside temporary stalls where you can quench your thirst with water or some cool drinks. The stalls sell munchies or snacks for you to pick up if you are hungry.
Incredible views
The best part of Dainkund peak is the beautiful flowers adorning the slopes and the valleys. It appears like a white carpet of flowers and imparts a soothing treat to the eyes. As you move upward the trail, you can find deep gorgeous valleys. Mesmerizing views of the tall trees surrounding the valleys create an unusual sensational feeling. I felt like spreading across my hands and flying like a bird.
In some places, you can find shepherds with mountain goats grazing on the fields. I felt like I am in the countryside like we read in novels. Complete transportation to a world of enigmatic beauty of Mother nature. The awesome landscape of Khajjiar can be viewed from the peak. From the top, it seems an artist has painted scenery on a white canvas. The place has endless beauty, capable to fill hearts and minds with serenity and tranquillity.
