Travel Post-Covid19

The travel industry that wakes up after this hibernation is going to be a revamped one, with different modus operandi. Here’s what we speculate could be the future of travel post-COVID:

• Travel Regime

Hygiene & Safety measures become new norms of travel. Health screening, temperature checks, & vaccination certifications will be mandated norms at airports, borders & hotel check-ins. This does imply longer waiting time at airports! 🧼 💪

• Digital Health Passports

Travel identification documents will incorporate health data of individuals & is likely to get fully digitalized. Cheers for a hassle-free trip! 🍻

• Automated Check-ins with Biometrics

Contactless travel implies that biometrics such as facial/retina recognition tools will be used for check-in procedures.

• Surge in Domestic Tourism

As borders remain closed, and even due to fear of travelling abroad, “Workation” & “Hometripping” travels are likely trends in the travel industry in the near future. BTW INDIA is one of the most beautiful country in the world.

• Business travel will decrease significantly. Companies will be reluctant to send their employees for business travel and hence ZOOM calls will replace nearly all business travel. 👩‍💻

• Virtual Travel

Through virtual reality, travellers can “experience” far off destinations, with minimal environmental impact. Everyone can thus travel, from elderly to young kids, explore new places and visit endangered & unapproachable places. 🌳

• Road-trips will become popular. From families to youngsters, travellers will prefer road-tripping to nearby destinations, for long weekends or for short vacations. 🚙 You can opt to go to a relative who lives in an exotic place, beach, mountain etc. I know it won't please your travel cravings but something is better than nothing.

• Uncertainty of Air travel

With social distancing & hygiene regulations, the airline may increase their fares and air travel will once again be a luxury. Conversely, due to fear of COVID, foreign travels may reduce and airline fares could plunge due to low demand. ✈️

• Solo Travel 🏃🏻‍♂️🎒

Post-COVID, solo travellers & small group travels will be preferred compared to large group travelling as it is safer & easier to comply with social distancing norms.

• Hotels or Homestays? 🏨 🏡

While some travellers may prefer hotels as they have stricter guidelines & budgets to follow cleaning methods as per health protocols, the shared spaces in hotels such as elevators and pools might make many other travellers reluctant. Many would hence prefer smaller homestays or home rented properties through Airbnb etc.

• Chain of Hotels

Luxury hotels may become cheaper. With low demand likely to remain and lower occupancies due to government stipulation, hotel room rates are likely to fall. But there is another perspective to it. The staff/labour and other miscellaneous expenses might increase which leads to expensive stays.

• Trust in Brands/ Past travels ✅

Once the coast clears, travellers are likely to pick trusted brands or places they have stayed in the past as they are assured of safety standards & hygiene quality.
