Why visiting a border is an unique experience. #BordersOfIndia

Visiting a border between countries gives you an unique experience, We get to know how much united the country is with its neighbours. However, a country sharing its border shows its dominance on how its is faring better in terms of economic progress and infrastructure. One such example of dominance I have witnessed is the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar. Despite the turmoil happening between the two countries, the Wagah border draws millions of tourists all over the world that showcases how you can add a new country in your “been there” bucketlist by just peeping into the other side of the border

I visited the Wagah Border in the winter season as a part of my Punjab tour itinerary. We visited the border along with the travelers I have met in my backpacker’s hostel. We were fortunate to get a VIP entry where you get to view the Pakistan border from a close angle. I saw many salesmen requesting us to allow painting an Indian tricolor in our faces which would become a hit, when posted on the social media. Coming back to the story, Viewing the border of Indo-Pakistan is a once in a lifetime experience.

We were getting ready to watch the closing ceremony, which looks to be an as usual ritual every day in the border. I can see the BSF(Border Security Force) guards of both the countries getting ready for the evening closing ceremony. I can see the border on the Indian side becoming Housefull and cheer our motherland against the arch-rivals, which is quite common when India and Pakistan face each other in Cricket and Hockey. The border on the Pakistani side looked mostly vacant as most of the citizens looked like they came for a Picnic.

The host started the ceremony by opening his conversation through a mic with the Indian visitors. The host loudly said “ Bharat Mata Ki” and the crowd responded with “Jai”. What looked like an ordinary border became a place of “war of words”. I can see the people in pakistani side envying our host and its counterpart’s economic progress. The closing ceremony became a one sided game as the Pakistani residents gave up reciprocating to its residents.

Moreover, on the other side, I felt pity for the Pakistan as they owe their regret for parting ways with India during the time of Independence. I also felt sad that despite Pakistan making a blunder in 1947, we Indians are adding salt in the wounds till date. Also, unlike USA and Japan, Germany and Britain, where the countries have settled with a peaceful aggrement in order to develop Bilateral relations of the future, I also felt disappointed that India and Pakistan have been locking horns with each other on Kashmir, Kargil War , Bangladesh liberation and recently, the partnership with China. Which shows that it is not far away for the launch an world war 3.

From the traveller’s perspective, I can say that the dominance of India over Pakistan showcases how worst their relationship is running and we citizens are supporting it. I hope there will be an end to this madness.Adventures of an Indian Border
