At a distance of 1 km from Vagamon Bus Stop, Vagamon Lake is a tranquil water body tucked in the fold of greenery in the quaint hill town of Vagamon. It is one of the beautiful lakes in the Idukki district and among the most prominent places to visit in Vagamon.

Uluppuni is classified as once of the less explored destinations in Idukki District. This water fall is so wild and deep inside the forest that reaching here is an adventure. But it’s quite safe until you are getting down from the jeep.

A natural wonder draped in silk, draws up an image that seems only possible in one’s imagination. But Pattumala breathes life into this fantasy. Once you reach these silken verdant hills at Peermede in Idukki, you understand why the name was chosen.

On the way to Vagamon, one must take a break to behold the Karikadu View Point if you are travelling through the Erattupetta route. This point is known for its sky-high, lush green valleys and mystic fogs. The road to Vagamon can be seen zig-zagging the hills beyond. A panther statue has been built to add to the aesthetic value of this place. Get off your car here here and enjoy a cup of tea while getting some pictures for your memory.

Idukki dam reserver view point is inside Idukki forest, keep your eyes open towards forest you might be lucky some time. The wide spread landscape all around inside a reserve forest is a sight to watch. Amazing place to hang out for sometime.

Kurisumala is derived from two Malayalam words, ‘Kurishu’ meaning cross and ‘mala’ meaning mountain/hill. One of the picturesque tourist spots in Vagamon is Kurisu.

A popular Christian pilgrimage, it is flocked by followers specially during the Good Friday week. Its followers come from various part of the country to climb up the hills with wooden crosses. Kurisumala is one of the most popular tourist spots in Vagamon.

The Marmalade Waterfall is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Vagamon. The waterfall is located in the Kottamala Reserve Forest and is surrounded by lush greenery. The best time to visit the falls is between June and August, when the water flow is at its peak. Visitors can take a dip in the pool at the base of the falls or simply enjoy the scenic views.

The Vagamon Pine Forest is one of the most popular places to visit on vacation. The forest is home to a variety of plant and animal life and is a great place to hike or enjoy the scenery. Be sure to bring your camera, as there are plenty of photo opportunities throughout the forest.

The Idukki Dam is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Vagamon. Built across the Periyar River, this dam is a sight to behold. Standing at the height of 550 feet, the Idukki Dam is one of the tallest dams in India. Visitors can take a boat ride on the reservoir or go on a hike to enjoy the stunning views. The dam is also a popular spot for birdwatching, as it is home to many species of birds.

Best Time to visit:

Vagamon is an all-season destination but the best time is after the monsoons from June to September or before the summer from March to May. After the rains the whole area specially the green meadows in Vagamon is very green and fresh. With the onset of summer the grasses dry up and greens become brown and days become hot.

How to reach:

By train: The nearest railway station is at Kuttikanam, 22 km away from Vagamon. Other neighbouring railway stations are Palai, 33 km away, Thodupuzha, 39 km, Kumily, 45 km, and Kottayam, 65 km. Road connectivity from all these stations to Vagamon is quite good.

By air: The closest airport to Vagamon is Cochin International Airport, which is around 75 km away. Buses, cabs and private vehicles are there to serve between the airport and Vagamon.

By road: Road connectivity to Vagamon is quite good, with state highways connecting it to Erattupetta and other major cities in Kerala.

NOTE: If you are planning to visit Vagamon do note that this destination is a plastic-free zone and litter in any format is not permitted. A family picnic over the green meadows is one of the most popular activities in Vagamon.
