Beaches are some of the best vacation spots in the world. There’s just something so relaxing and alluring about wiling away the time under the hot sun while being caressed by the gentle ocean breeze. That being said, it’s important to stay safe and responsible out here on the coast. For example, here are four things you should never do at the beach.
Don’t Overextend Your Swimming Skills
Swimming is undoubtedly one of the most popular things to do at the beach. Whether you’re staying in a luxury Maldives resort or a popular Negombo beach hotel in Sri Lanka, your accommodations provider will no doubt mention a dip in the ocean under their itinerary list. All that said, it’s important to make sure you swim safely. So, don’t stray too far from shore – you never know when a rogue wave might hit.
Don’t Feed the Wildlife
Most beaches will be host to unique varieties of wildlife – whether it’s ocean-going seabirds or rare sea turtles. As a rule, don’t be tempted to toss food items at these creatures. Not only does this make them habituated to human feeding, but certain food items can be detrimental to the animal’s health.
Don’t Litter
This goes without saying, just don’t toss your trash around without care while at the beach! One of the main allures of a beach is its pristine nature and raw natural beauty. These can be easily lost if we all act selfishly and irresponsibly.
Don’t Ignore Beach Authorities
Beach officials like lifeguards are out there for a reason – to keep you and the people around you safe. So, don’t callously ignore their advice or requests. If officials warn you that a particular patch of water is dangerous and you should stay away from, it’s in everyone’s best interests that you take that advice.
