About Baba Budangiri
Here too you trek for some 2 hrs to reach the peak. Baba Budan giri, or Rajendra Hill, is a rich reservoir of iron ore, and that lends a distinctive shade to the mountain. There are not many trees on this hill. It is mainly made up of grass and shrubs, giving it an aura of being endless in space and time. The wind atop the hill almost makes you feel as if you are flying. The far and wide view from the peak brings a sudden closeness with the Creator. This is a place you feel completely one with nature.

This is the highest peak of Karnataka and is a part of the Babu Budhan Giri Range in the District of Chikmagalur. There is a small Shiva Temple on top of this hill and that point is the highest point of the state. The Mullayanagiri is perfect for hiking and it is higher than the Nilgiris but lower than the Himalayas. The views from top of the mountain with cool air brushing your face is a very nice feeling and worth all the difficulty you will face to climb the mountain.
After resting for a while we took out our bikes and started towards Hebe falls. We went about 10 km on the Kemmangundi road after which there was a forest department barricade. The entry into the area leading to falls here on is restricted and only forest department jeeps are allowed to go inside. The reason being, first part of the ride is a private coffee plantation and the second part is a Tiger reserve. Due to danger of poachers, this area is off limits to civilians and only forest department officials are allowed to go inside.
This is one of the most picturesque tourist attractions of Karnataka and is in the Chikmagalur District. The snow white falls drops down from quite a height and forms two levels- The Dodda Hebbe or the big falls and the Chikka Hebbe or the small falls. The waters of here are known to be herb infused and has certain therapeutic values for the health. Taking a dip here will prove good for your body. This is because, the mountain, along whose body the water ripples town has bushes small herbal plants and the goodness of these are going into the water continuously. If you come here during the early winters, you will be able to experience the real beauty of the flora and fauna of this place.
The road got smaller and muddier as time passed until we got to the point where the road wasn't wide enough for two cars to pass each other. We even got stuck at some point when a small van from the opposite side wanted to pass by. Finally, we stopped and parked the car literally at the cliff of the hill. A foot more to the left and the car would have gone over the hill.

This is small hill station which in Kannada literally means "The Town of the Younger Daughter". The name of the town is after its District Headquarters also known as Chikmagalur. There are extensive coffee plantations here along with the beauty of a number of rivers that originate from the mountains here. This is a perfect place to come during summers as this place is cool throughout the year. The mountains here are also ideal for trekking and hiking. The major attractions here are the Mullayanagiri, Bababudan Range, Amruthapura, Ayyanakere, Dattatreya Temple and others.
This is the extreme tip of the Kemmanagundi Hill region. This is a perfect trekking experience and the beautiful panoramic views of the whole Chikmagalur is mind blowing from here. There is a mud Tracck which diverges up from Raj Bhavan and you can start your trek from this very point. The best time is during the early winters as it is less tiring and the winds up there are very comfortable and refreshing. There is also a lovely guest house up there if you want to spend the night.
Jhari Waterfall (Buttermilk Falls)
We started for Buttermilk falls (Dabdabe falls) at 9:00 AM and reached there by 11:30 AM. Before that we had breakfast in the bus stand canteen. The canteen offers affordable and delicious poori aalu and dosa (s). The coffee is superb.A place worth a visit in Chikmangluru is Jhari/ Buttermilk falls.
On Day 2, we woke up early, collected wood from nearby and prepared dal rice, had it and left for Manikyadhaara, which is near Kemmanagundi. Its approximately 8 to 10 kilometers away from the shrine of Hazrat Dada Hayat Khalander. Jeeps charge a nominal Rs.10/- pp to take you there, but mostly people prefer to walk. The view of the mountains is excellent and can be enjoyed only when you walk this distance. It is a waterfall which is considered pious by the pilgrims who visit the shrine of Hazrat Baba. It is customary to first take a bath at this waterfall before entering into the cave shrine. The waterfall has reduced drastically and what we found was only a thin stream of water falling which in no way qualifies to be called a waterfall.
Z Point Trekking Peak
Taking your bikes any further is difficult because the trail keeps on getting narrower to the extent that only one person can walk on it, let alone a bike. Once you start your hike, the first landmark is a small waterfall which you have to cross to continue towards the point. After crossing this, the trail will become extremely narrow and it will stay so for the rest of the trek.
SAVI VEG RESTAURANT
Also, our bikes were running out of fuel, because of which we had to head back to the city. We reached the city by 12:30 PM and had Lunch at Savi Veg Restaurant. The food was good and price was a little bit expensive but overall good. Then we began our search for a good hotel to take rest(As mentioned earlier we haven't slept the entire night).
2:30 PM - Ayyana KereReturned to chikmagalur, refueled my bike and myself with some coconut water and continued my drive. Ayyanakere is loacated 18 kms from Chikmagalur on the Chikmagalur Kadur highway. The lake has a scenic background with a line of hills. It is located off Sakharayapatna. Spent half an hour here and started to Bengaluru
After the breakfast, zipped through towards Hassan. 4 lane empty highway with barely any traffic ensured I munched miles pretty quickly. Hassan Chikmagalur is a single lane road with plenty of curves. It has some nasty humps and passes by many lakes. This stretch was carefully negotiated to reach Chikmagalur where we are greeted with the lovely sight of the hills. Made my way quickly to Town Canteen, Chikmagalur. This restaurant is famous for Masala Dose. Hogged properly as i would be skipping lunch and spend the next three hours in the hills.
