Garden of the Maidens (Sahelion Ki Bari)

Beardo Raveller
We started our journey from Delhi with a evening private bus which started from Old Fatehpuri and reached Udaipur at around 7 in the morning. It was way early than our check-in time and I was aware that Saheliyon ki Bari, a picturesque garden of Udaipur with great historic value, was 5 minutes away from our bus stop.

We rang up the auto guy by noon and started the city tour. The first on list was a boat ride on the lake. After the ride, we skipped a few small attractions on the way and stopped at Saheliyon ki Bari. As per history, this garden was designed by the king himself and he presented this garden to his queen. The Queen was accompanied by 48 maids in her marriage. This patterned garden used to be the popular relaxing spot of the royal ladies. The queen with her maids and female companions used to come here to spend their time in leisure. It will take only 10 minutes to cover this spot.

5. Roam around the Saheli ki baadi if it is not a hot day. Else, take rest for a while in your hotel and prepare yourself for the exotic evening.
Since I didn't know anything about the place so I asked the hotel owner for the tourists spots. He was very gentle. He made a list of places on a paper and numbered them so I could follow it like a map. All places are within 5-6kms. I first visited Saheliyon ki Bari (Bari means garden). A beautiful lush green garden with Lotus pool and elephant fountains at the centre. It was built by the then King for his Queen.
5) Saheliyon Ki Bari: Its not what I had expected. Very small. But the chamber inside the garden looks good.
This is an interesting place. This place was built because Rani was sad that she was not allowed to go out and enjoy with her friends. So Maharaja built this entire place so that Rani can enjoy!!!!

5. Flowers in full bloom, cool fountains and artistic architecture- this beautiful Badi is a perfect escape from the scorching desert sun. The garden is famous for its lush green lawns, marble art and fountains. English translation of Saheliyon Ki Bari means "Garden of maids". This renowned garden is located on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake, presenting a green retreat in the dry lands of Rajasthan. It was built in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh for the royal women. Saheliyon ki Bari basically is a garden and courtyard for the royal maidens. It was built by Maharana Bhopal Singh as a recreational space for the 48 maidens that had accompanied his wife after their marriage. When it was built, it had just the garden but the fountains were added about 125 years ago and worked without any motor, they just use natural pressure of the fountain due to its shape and the water comes from Fateh Sagar lake.
