Goa- A hot destination for every mood and amazing sea food! Well Goa has always been associated with beaches, alcohol, beach sports, shacks and parties. This time when we went to Goa we decided to do something very different. All thanks to one of our friends who kept on insisting to do this particular activity- Kayaking. We had done kayaking before but not the kind we did in Goa. This was proper kayaking through Sal Backwaters, through mangroves and through nature in particular.
If you want to have a very different and serene experience in Goa, I would suggest you to go through this article and plan your trip soon! We went to Goa during the month of January. The days were somewhat hot but overall the weather was pretty pleasant. We booked the kayaking with Goa Kayaking a day prior to the actual activity. Kayaking is supposed to be done early in the morning so as to get the amazing wildlife view and not feel the heat of the sun at the same time. We reached there at around 8:30 am in the morning and started the beautiful journey of 2 hrs. Let me try and remove any fears you might have regarding the kayaking activity. You are given proper life jackets and a brief training just before you start the journey. Two guides will be constantly with you throughout and help you if you are stuck anywhere anytime. Mr Prakash (the owner) was very kind to us and helped us remove any fears that we had.
The journey is impossible to be described in words but I will still try to take my chance! After a brief training and photo session, we began the activity. The initial stretch is pretty easy as it does not have any mangroves and it’s just the backwaters. This is where you get the practice and the confidence to complete the entire stretch. The mangroves part needs a bit of maneuvering and attention but it’s not something very difficult to do and in fact you would enjoy this part the most. If you are lucky you will be able to see different kind of birds (Kingfisher, Storks, heron etc.), crabs, and water snakes as well! The entire stretch is very calm and serene and you will definitely have a wonderful me-time if you enjoy this kind of atmosphere. There were times when we got stuck in the grasses and the mangroves but it’s not some rocket science and the guides were constantly there to help us out. The chirping of birds, the sound of nature, the peaceful environment all in one package which you should not miss out on if you want to get away from civilization and into the greens.
