History and Architecture

CHIJMES has a rich and fascinating history that dates back to the 19th century. It was originally built as a Catholic convent and girls' school, named the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ). The convent was home to many nuns and students, who lived, studied, and prayed within its walls. The convent also served as a shelter for orphans, widows, and the poor, earning it the nickname "the Convent of a Thousand Lights".

The most iconic feature of CHIJMES is the Gothic chapel, which was completed in 1904. The chapel boasts a stunning interior, with stained glass windows, marble statues, and a vaulted ceiling. The chapel was also the venue for many weddings, baptisms, and funerals, making it a witness to many life events. The chapel is now a function hall, where you can host your own events or attend concerts and performances.

Chijmes Reviews

Peach and I said good-bye to Ate Menchie and then headed to Chijmes, which used to be a Catholic church and is now converted into an events place. No band was playing so we thought it wouldn’t be worth paying for a beer. Good thing there was this place where we just had our usual conversation about life. :)
