The Biligirirangana Hill Range or BR Hills is a very popular weekend destination located about 180 km from Bangalore. With breathtaking beauty, a wildlife sanctuary and serenity, it is visited by tourists regularly from cities closeby. An amazing bird watching spot, jungle safaris and bird watching safaris here are a regular happening. If you are lucky, you may just spot a tiger! Rich in its flora and fauna, the sanctuary is home to over 800 varieties of plants. You can also choose to go fishing here, if you aren't the adventurous kind. For adventure enthusiasts, rafting, trekking and riding coracle boats is a pleasure and certainly worth it! Though a lot of people would be of the opinion that the journey to BR Hills is much more wonderful than the destination, you'd definitely need to visit it before reaching a decision. Away from the chaos, the quiet here gives one an opportunity to unwind. The tribal culture of the Soliga tribes adds to the charm of this lovely small town.The Biligiriranganatha Swamy Temple deserves a visit to witness the foot-long slippers that are offered to the deity by the tribes. With many resorts and homestays springing up here, you have many options to spend a laidback, rejuvenating weekend.
