Dandeli Tourism & Travel Guide

This town under the Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka is considered as one of the most beautiful places on Earth and the major credit goes to the dense cover of natural forests here. The name Dandeli is derived from an old legend. Once there was a man named Dandelappa who was a manor in the court of the royal Marishi. The daughter of the master fell in love with Dandelappa but to keep the respect of his master, he rejected the proposal of the lady. In a motive to take revenge for her rejection, the lady went to her brothers and accused Dandelappa of having misbehaved with her. This is how the honest man was killed and the [arts of his body were buried at two different places. To respect the man, two temples were built on these two sites and the name of the place was kept as Dandeli. The town is on the banks of the Kali River and thus there are opportunities to enjoy a lot of adventure sports such as kayaking and canoeing. Another important attraction here given the natural beauty and the richness of flora and fauna is the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary.

Also known as the kalinadi, this river flows through the Karwar region of the district of uttara Kannada in Karnataka. This is a very important river as it is the main source of water supply for almost 4 lakh people and also the main source of livelihood for the fishermen around this place. There are a number of dams built here for the purpose of generating hydroelectricty which will in turn provide electricity to the families around this river. The Kali Bridge is built over the river and is a part of the National Highway or the NH 17 which is an important road network too. Adventure sports such as river rafting is very popular over here and the scenic beauty is a delight for photographers and well as nature lovers.

Weekend Getaways from Dandeli

This is the capital of the state of Goa and is probably the smallest state capital. Panaji is also the headquarters of the North Goa District and is situated on the banks of the Mandovi River Estuary is the Tiswada Region. The more popular name is Panaji but Panjim is also a commonly used term. This was the name by which the Portuguese used to address this city. When the whole of India got independence, Goa was still under the colonial rule of the Portuguese who freed it a number of years later. The Portuguese effect is what you will get in each and every thing of Goa and Panjim too. The attractions here are the lovely white church, the food that you will get here and of course the different types of building lined on the sides of the narrow streets. These houses are the remains of the various clans who have ruled here including the Latins and the Portuguese. The houses look beautiful and brightly coloured and many of them have simple yet pretty wrought iron balconies too. Many of these are now either resorts for budget concious travellers or restaurants for the ones who love to taste Portuguese and Goan cuisine.
