Srirangapatna Tourism and Travel Guide

Merely 19 km from Mysore, this river island has been an urban centre and a place of pilgrimage since time immemorial. Its vast monarchical history has left this town dotted with many remnants worth visiting, such as Gumbaz Burial Chamber (the mausoleum of Tipu Sultan), Daria Daulat (his palace), Captain Bailey's Chamber (a torture chamber for prisoners belonging to Sultan's father, Hyder Ali), which is guaranteed to give anyone goosebumps with its chilling past. Located 27 km from the town is the majestic Shivanasamudra Falls, the 16th largest waterfall in the world, a visit to which is bound to take your breath away. But if that's further than you'd like to go, you can see the Balmuri Falls, although it is much smaller than the former. The confluence of three holy rivers Kaveri, Hemavati and Kabini can be seen at Sangam. Places such as The Cute, Food Park and Thotade Man are known for good vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. Srirangapatna can be reached easily by air, the nearest airport being in Mysore which is 14 km away and 140 km from Bangalore by train or by road.
