Virajpet is a town brimming with history in Kodagu, Karnataka. Ancient temples with intricate architecture, such as the Ayyappa Temple and the Shiva Temple, grace the streetscape. The Malethirike Hill, which stands out for its semicircular structure, offers the most beautiful trekking routes. There is also the 220-year-old St. Anne’s Church in Gothic style architecture in the town, with two massive bells, which are still very much in use! The Clock Tower is another interesting entity in the town that adds an animated feel to the place. The highest mountain in Kodagu, Tadiandamol, is located a few kilometres from Virajpet, and gives the town a picturesque backdrop.
The town is draped in acres of coffee cultivation and spice crops, and the town is well known for being the largest producer of honey in Asia. Every October, hundreds of people flock to this town for the 10-day Madikeri Festival.
