2018 Year End Drive - The Chola Dynasty

Day 1

To wrap up 2018 decided to visit the Chola dynasty region of Tamil Nadu which has rich architecture and culture. Kick started the drive from Whitefield Bangalore @5:00 am, as already Bangalore was half empty due to year end holidays exiting Bangalore was smooth. First destination was Mayiladuthurai.

Day 2

Tharangambadi/Tranquebar is a small town in Nagapattinam district of Tamilnadu houses the Fort Dansborg locally called Dansih fort in the shores of Bay of Bengal. The beach is one of the ozone rich beaches in India. Tranquebar was the first Danish trading post in India established in 1620.

Day 3

Brihadisvara Temple at Gangaikonda Cholapuram is dedicated to Shiva in Gangaikonda Cholapuram, Tamil Nadu. Completed in 1035 AD by Rajendra Chola I, this Chola dynasty era temple is similar in design, and has a similar name, as the older 11th century, Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur.

Day 4

Visited Sri Garbarakshambigai Temple located in Thirukarukavur, Thanjavur District. Childless people who worship the Goddess Garbarakshambigai (meaning 'savior of foetus') with devotion and faith are blessed with pregnancy. Day 5

Brihadishvara Temple, also called Rajarajesvaram or Peruvudaiyar Koyil, is dedicated to Shiva located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the largest South Indian temples and an exemplary example of a fully realized Dravidian architecture. The temple stands super strong for more than 1000+ years which makes every Indian proud of our architecture.
