Life time experience which one gets to feel during this 7-8 days trek.
I must say when I started the trek I was the stranger among the group of 11 people, a solo girl traveller joining the other gang members for the trek but when we completed the trek we were the family.
It was memorable one me, though done many treks but this has its own beauty.
Snow, mountains, water, few people and a little of sun is what you just see for almost 8 days.
I started my journey from Delhi and flew to leh where I stayed in army guest house for 3 days to acclimatise myself to weather out there, it was – 15 degrees so it’s good to acclimatise.
Then headed to first base camp so called hotel where all the people from different cities gather together to move to second base camp (Shingra Koma) in morning which is almost 50 kms away from leh city.
Here we were given practise to walk on snow and how we would be doing the trek. Pros and cons of walking were explained.
We stayed there for a night and next day onwards originally our trek started to DibCave/Tibb. it was freaking cold in the morning, temperature of around -25 degrees to go. We all packed our luggage and with our walking sticks started to walk, till the time we could actually feel the sun rays. You might not see sunshine properly as the steep cliffs in this area obstruct them. Once you reach Dib, you will see a large cave. This is the place where you will halt for the night and rest. Butter tea would be offered and we recommend you to try it.
Stay there for the night and start next day.
Next day from Dib Cave to Naerak Camp site.
Most beautiful part of the trek to be covered is on this day where actually you get to see the frozen Waterfall which stands out to be largest and people are crazy to witness that and no doubt, it is super beautiful and mesmerising. We camped there for in night.
Next day hiked for Naerak Village which is called mini Switzerland, also you will be happy to know that it has the satellite calling phone which you can use to call at home. It feels great when after certain days in no network zone you get to connect with world specially to hear your family .
After that the trek for back to Shingra Yokma starts in between having camp night at Tibb.
Belief me its once in life time experience to go and feel.
Enjoy it before its too late for it, as chadar trek may get close very soon.
CHALLENGES:
1. Temperature goes really Low to -35 Degrees.
2. Slow walk on ice which starts early morning and ends till late afternoon.
3. Acute Mountain Sickness due to high mountains, cold and less of Oxygen level ( so carry medicines) to avoid headache , vomiting.
4. Unpredictable weather.
PREPARATIONS:
a) Workouts
b) Do small treks before( personal experience )
c) Medical checkup, failing to which you are playing with your life.
P.S:
• Buy gum boots from leh market only to walk during trek they cost hardly 250- 300 bugs.
• Carry raw food and snacks, specially sneakers, dry fruits and Jaggery sweets.
• Carry dry tissues as wet tissues get frozen up.
• Hand sanitizers are best hygiene thing there.
• Don’t carry much clothing for changing but carry good handsome amount of socks as you never know when your feet may get into the iced water.
• Carry muscle relaxant and volini spray.
• Carry down jackets.
