The husband and wife duo spent over two decades working at corporates before they created Filmapia - a unique platform which connects hidden destinations with filmmakers.
What is Filmapia?
The Benaguluru-based company has been stirring up the film industry by serving filmmakers with gorgeous shoot locations. The locations are at a lower cost than most regular options too. How do they do it? By curating a database of properties with home owners and locals who have insights into a potential shoot locations.
Since its inception a few years ago, the Filmapia team has been adding to their bank of properties, often reaching out to landlords who own a vintage home or a bungalow which could serve as the perfect backdrop to a series or a film.
The platform follows a simple approach which lets directors and film crew focus on getting the perfect shots while leaving the locations to the team. Directors often reach out to Ivy and Benjamin with a script, character sketch and ideal shoot locations to match their creative visions. The couple then work at scouting locations, gaining permits and even setting up the shoot location for the crew, complete with equipment. Depending on the requirement, the couple may suggest destinations that are lesser known and hence lighter on the budget.
But this is only half of the spectrum. Filmapia is also turning out to be a boon for home owners who might enjoy hosting a celebrity during a shoot. Instead of renting out properties to regular folk, home owners are now turning to Fimapia to gain an income and the limelight!
How can you get involved?
Landlords who own a unique home with features like traditional Indian architecture, gorgeous interior design or a well-pruned garden that's an attraction to guests, can reach out to the team to list their properties on Filmapia. The Filmapia team then visits the site and onboards the property for potential shoots which may range between a few days and a few months.
Unlike the regular monthly rental income though, the Filmapia team would rent a property for the shoot duration only. Following strict guidelines and the necessary paperwork, home owners can be treated to a total 'blockbuster' experience by renting out their homes to film stars who might grace the sets at home!
