Even if you hate cliches, you can’t help but succumb to the charm of the city of Venice when here. Make sure to plan ahead and avoid the crowds. From the romantic gondola rides to sipping wine in the cafes that line the Venetian canals; Venice will never disappoint you.

When you think of Venice, you do think of Gondola rides! It’s a quintessential way of experiencing this beautiful city. Even though it might be a little expensive (€80 - €100), it’s worth it specially if you’re on your honeymoon! If you won’t splurge on your honeymoon, when will you. Get cosy, feel the wind in the hair and see the old houses, palaces and pretty places pass you by as you savour the beauty around in your own time. Don’t forget to take some pictures!

Day 1

Explore the Academia Bridge for some evening strolls

There’s no better way to explore the city than by walking. Taking long romantic strolls with your partner in Venice is something that you won’t forget. There are many places and bridges from where you can enjoy some beautiful sunsets! The Academia Bridge is one of them. This wooden bridge over the Grand Canal can be busy, but you can wait for evening to enjoy a quiet time here. It offers some of the best views of Venice.

Day 2

Rialto bridge which also offers one of the best views of Venice. This is the oldest bridge on the canal and a must visit. You can enjoy the views from here or do some shopping at the many stalls on this bridge!

Day 3

Have fun at the Alberoni beach

Even though Venice is not known for its bridges, Lido beach is provides for that aspect as well ! Situated a bit far away from the main town of Venice, this beach can be reached by a boat ride from the main town. Situated in the nature reserve, this beach feels like the perfect place to relax and enjoy some alone time. You can also indulge in some adventure sports like jet skiing, bike riding etc.

Cuisine on offer

Pastas and pizzas are a definite yes, as you’re in Italy! Located close to the water, there’s a lot of sea food and meats available here in Venice, so make sure that you don’t miss out on them!

Try the Sarde in saor, which is an antipasto, and features the sweet and sour sardines with onions, pine-nuts and raisins. It’s briny, salty, delicately sweet, and intensely savoury.

You can also go for the Scampi alla veneziana which is the Venetian shrimp and are served with a simple dressing of olive oil and lemon juice.

If you want a fine dining experience, don't miss out on Riviera, which is located just near the waters. You can try the tasting menu and wine tasting here as well!

For cheap eats, one of the best places in Cocaeta which serve the Italy famous, crepes! From the classic Nutella to the cinammon flavoured; these were amazing.

When to go

If you want to avoid the crowds, go in September or November, though Venice is a bit cooler at this time; the empty canals and streets make it worth it!

Getting there

By air

You can fly from New Delhi by budget airlines such as Aeroflot.

Getting around

The best way to get around the city is to buy the 24 hour boat ticket! Venice has a very systemised boat system and the cheapest way to get around is the water bus that plies from every pier at regular intervals. They are pretty cheap as well, around €40 per person.

Visa

You can get the Visa from the Italian Embassy and you need to apply at least a month in advance. The charges are Rs 4000 per person and it takes around 15 business days for the Visa to arrive.
