Manali, a hilltown in Himachal Pradesh, sits pretty in the Beas River Valley. Nestled among lush green mountains and river Beas, Manali is very welcoming. The apple and pear orchards, beautiful houses with bright flowers in the front yard and river Beas flowing alongside, all this is way more than essential to evoke that feeling of wonder and excitement of what lies ahead on this journey.

Tourists & Tour guides early morning: Mall Road

After settling into a Hotel, the nearest place to head out is the Mall Road. Very peculiar of hill towns, Mall road has places to shop, rent bikes, hotels & food. Street food is what I enjoyed the most here, be it steamed momos while it drizzles or jalebis made in sunflower oil, you will find something satisfying your taste buds.

All things leather: Old Manali

Alleys and pathways, rush of water and cool air, and in the midst of it a couple dozen cafe's, hotels and shops! This one place holds it all together for wanderers like us who want a taste of nature and nightlife all in one. Take a stroll along the lane and checkout artefacts, jewellery & clothes. Take your pick, choose a restaurant you like and fade your worries away.

A very reasonable shop, where you can choose the fabric and get shirts stitched, or shirt dresses for girls, is located in Old Manali. You can identify it easily by spotting a tailor sitting in the front.

Postcard Perfect: Solang Valley

Hills pretty majestic, a view to behold and offering a green valley to hold your feet, Solang Valley it is! Also known as Solang, the adventure valley, it hosts paragliding, zorbing, cable car ropeway along with skiing and snow scooter in winters. Drive to Solang Valley is quite picturesque. When there, indulge in the adventure activities or look out for pretty little finds like the one below.

Foodie's tip: Must have simply delicious grass fed mutton with rice at Annapurna Dhaba when at Solang Valley.

Solang: While it rains!!

Gulaba is a beautiful village in Manali, on the way to Rohtang Pass. I fell in love with the journey itself. Also this place has some snow during summers to soothe your eyes with that view of snow laden mountains, the photogenic Manali. However, it is advisable not to waste money on treating it as snow point as sold by most tour guides. It is best to ask the local shop owners about the various snow points or places to explore when in Manali.

Spellbound by nature's setting of mighty mountains, made magical by the flowing river and all those tiny flowers on trees all over the place like stardust sprinkled on the landscape, I never wanted to leave. As if the view was not mesmerising enough, like diamond sparks, the rain poured! Oh yes! I do believe in the magic of nature.

You will find La Pino's Pizza joint along the way. I bet this one is their most beautiful outlet at the most beautiful location!!

In an effort to save time, I headed to Gulaba from Old Manali, and checked Solang on the way back.

MANU TEMPLE: Manu Temple is dedicated to Sage Manu, the creator. This is where Manali gets it's name from. It is located in Old Manali, three kilometres from the main market.

Apart from Hindu temples, tibetan culture has a wide influence on the place, with prayer flags seen often. It houses some very important monasteries like Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa Monastery and Himalaya Nyingmapa Buddhist Temple.

FOOD

One of the many reasons for loving Manali is the scrumptious food it has to offer. Picture perfect cafes, delicious food with a variety of menus, it truly is a foodies paradise. Highly recommended, this place is truly an exotic wooden beauty and cared well since 1965. They even polish the wooden floors! What feels better than sinking into a hot tub on a cold night after an adventure filled day. Close to both Old Manali & Mall Road, and hosted by a courteous staff, this gorgeous hotel is an ultimate deal. For more, check Hotel Mayflower
