There are various alerts we keep seeing on websites but this particular one is especially important and be taken seriously as this pertains to issuance of passports. Ignoring which might lead to the people losing money and facing difficulties.

The Central Government of India issued a warning on the 20th of February 2023, i.e., Monday to those who are looking for passport related services to not fall prey to fake websites or mobile applications.

The alert generated from the Central Government’s end mentioned that “It has come to the notice of the Ministry that several fake websites and mobile applications are collecting data from applicants and charging additional exorbitant fees for filling online application forms and scheduling appointments for passport related services,”. While some of these fake websites are registered with org domain name, others are registered with “IN” and some are registered with dot com.

The list of fake websites that have been identified are:

• www.indiapassport.org

• www.online-passportindia.com

• www.passportindiaportal.in

• www.passport-india.in

• www.passport-seva.in

• www.applypassport.org

The alert also mentioned that all the citizens who are applying for Indian passport and other related services are advised not to visit these above-mentioned fraudulent websites or make any payments related to passport services, otherwise they may suffer financial loss.

The only official website of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India for passport services is passportindia.gov.in whose link is www.passportindia.gov.in

With online fraudulent activities on the rise targeting the innocent citizens, it is essential to spread the word so that those who aren’t technologically aware, should be aware of the possible fraudulent websites so that they can be extra vigilant while filling their details online.
