Haridwar also known as "The gateway to God" is one of the oldest and holiest city in india. Hindus believe that a pilgrimage to Haridwar provides liberation from the endless cycle of death and rebirth.

How to get there
Haridwar lies alongside the Ganges river near Rishikesh. From delhi it takes around 4 hours to get there by train. The nearest airport is at Dehradun about 40 kms away from it.It takes around 1 hour to reach haridwar from dehradun.

Places to visit
Haridwar's main attraction are its temples,ghats and river ganga. The main ghat of haridwar is Har ki Pauri meaning "footsteps of Lord Vishnu". At evening around 6-7 pm there is Ganga Aarti every night.

Mansa Devi Temple
It is situated at the top of hill near the center of haridwar. One can reach the temple by cable car.Expect to queue to board the cable car.Else one can reach there by road to the uphill (Around 2 kms).

Rajaji National Park
It is located 9 kms from haridwar . It is known for its scenic beauty and rich biodiversity. One can take elephant ride to explore many species and birds.

Places to eat
Street food are more popular than the fancy restaurants.Decades old eateries and dessert shops can be found in the lanes of city's market. Most famous joint are Mathura Walk ki Pracheen Dukan and Chole Bhatureat Bhagwati Chole bhandar.

Travel Tips
Haridwar is a much bigger city so auto-rickshaws are best option for getting around.One can do shopping at Bara Bazaar which is between Har ki Pauri and the upper road.
