All you have heard about the longest dam Hirakud built upon the river Mahanadi situated in Sambalpur District of Odisha.
Its a major river covering major area of eastern state of India like Chhattisgarh & Odisha & guys, here i am little bit more elaborative to bring into your focus about the importance of dam.
Dam is a power house/source for supply of water for various kind of irrigation, running of industries, generation of hydroelectric power & etc.
Relating to a few months back incident when there was a low pressure over bay of bengal, its create heavy rainfall & since mahanadi is originated from Chattisgarh i.e. sihawa.
Its act as a interconnected between different states of Chattisgarh & Odisha.
Because of the heavy rainfall the Dam cant hold the water which the govt forced to open 36 gates of the Hirakud Dam at a times it lead to the submerging of the low lying areas close to Hirakud.So in this way i can justify the importance of dam.
The Dam provides a living source of livelihood for fisherman, generation of electricity by hydro power. Many people are benefitted by it directly or indirectly.
Let's get into the Hirakud Dam & nearby beautiful place which replenish a great variety of flora & Govt has converted this place for view point for tourist attractions.
How to reach
By road means-From Jharsuguda airport, You have to take sambalpur road, From there you go to Jamadarpali from there Right dyke & then Hirakud.

Right Dyke
A beautiful scenic place where u can find water bodies & the area adjacent to the Hirakud Dam.
When u are going through this area through bike /car u get a view of water bodies similar to that of beach feeling.
Major occupation of the people here is fishing. One point there is a water level measurement area. This place is called Right Dyke.
Nehru park
First comes to the 𝐍𝐞𝐡𝐫𝐮 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤,its a play area or u can called park for children as well as adult.So many ride are there for children.
There is a pavement for walking area for adult,jogging, fountain & a statue of Jawaharlal Nehru in the centre of the park & flowering plants, greenary & grass surrounding the area.
Sitting area are there to take rest & watching nature flourishing beside the Dam area. The park also enclosing a small zoo where peacock, rabbits, budgies birds are kept & managed well by the Govt authority.
There is also a ropeway ride where you can enjoy the Dam view from the top while taking the ride from one side to other. The ropeway is connected with the 𝐆𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐡𝐢 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 the greatest point to the view all the near by area from top.
Gandhi Minar
Then 𝐆𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐡𝐢 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 ,it has two route either you go that Minar through ropeway from Nehru Park or by burla route through Zero point. The place as you know surrounding the Dam you can better guess it's view. It a soulful view to see the water bodies ,rarer birds, great variety of flora & fauna. Good place to escape from the chaos of countryside. From here you can see the majestic view of Dam. The Dam area is prohibited so you can have your view from here by stepping to the top of the minar. From there you can get the wide view of Hirakud Dam & it's nearer areas
